AMD Polaris 10 “Ellesmere” To Be As Fast As GTX 980 Ti?

At a press event in Taiwan for the Radeon Pro Duo, AMD talked quite a bit about its upcoming “Polaris” and “Vega” family of GPUs. Polaris 10 is based on the 14nm “Ellesmere” silicon and is designated to the Radeon R9 490(X). It may be the most powerful chip based on the Polaris architecture, but it won’t be the “big chip” that is succeeding “Fiji” that will be “Vega” in 2017.

The “Ellesmere” silicon will compete against NVIDIA’s GP104. It has been rumored that the R9 490(X) based off of this silicon will offer consumers rivaling the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, which means it will be faster than the Radeon R9 Fury X. Oh yeah, and it will have a $300-ish price point.

“Ellesmere” is expected to feature 2560 4th generation GCN stream processors, a possible 256-bit GDDR5X memory interface, and a sub-200W board power rating.
