AMD Ryzen-4000 series APUs likely to be released soon

Just now, there is information about AMD Ryzen 4000 series APUs for the desktop. AMD already announced the Ryzen 4000 series APUs for notebooks. The currently available Ryzen 3000 series APUs use Zen+ microarchitecture, the only one in its lineup to use the older 12nm made by Global Foundries. The new Renoir APUs will use7nm Zen 2 architecture from TSMC. These CPUs are expected to inherit the same TDP rating of 35w. Earlier, we’ve seen the information leak and release of the AMD Ryzen 3 CPUs- the 3100 and 3300X recently.  There’s a good chance AMD wants to secure its entry-level CPUs for incoming Intel CPUs before its Ryzen 3, 5 and 7 4000 series release.

Regardless, it is too early to say.

The upcoming AMD 4000 series GE APUs

The unnamed APU has A 3GHz base clock with 1200MHz iGPU clock and 3200MHz DDR4 memory support. According to the leak, the CPU performance score is higher than the Ryzen 7 4700U and 4600U Renoir notebook APUs. Since its iGPU performance is lower than the notebook APUs, these are most likely the low-powered GE variants. ts speculated to be modelled either as 4200GE or the 4100GE. This will succeed the existing AMD Ryzen 3rd gen APU SKUs the Ryzen 5 3400GE or Ryzen 3 3200GE which have 35W TDP. Though the information is from a source whose information is usually accurate, AMD does a lot of testing with various SKUs. We’ll know which one do they plan to release in the market- or which they’ll limit for OEM or even not release it.

Motherboard compatibility

Its mainboard is labelled as ‘AMD Arctic’ but no information is available for it now. It is most likely the name of its in-house motherboard for testing purpose. But regardless I dont see why the new APU lineups will not worth with the 300 and the 400 series. We also do have the AMD 550 series chipset that was announced with the new Ryzen 3 CPUs. Would APUs have the PCIe 4.0 support? We’ll have to wait to know more information.
