There have been reports of two potential appearances of AMD’s upcoming Zen 5 CPUs, with one model featuring 8 cores and 16 threads. Zen 5 is expected to be AMD’s next significant CPU architecture, set for release in 2024. While we anticipate the chip’s performance, it appears that AMD themselves might have accidentally revealed some test units from their labs, leading to a few entries in online databases. However, it’s important to note that these entries should be taken with caution as they are not yet verified or confirmed.
Benchleaks recently discovered potential evidence of an unconfirmed AMD Zen 5 CPU in the Einstein@Home and LHC@home databases. These databases have previously included information about Zen 4 SKUs and Threadripper components as well. The entries found in both databases indicate the presence of an engineering sample with 8 cores and 16 threads. The specific SKU associated with this sample is identified by the OPN string “AuthenticAMD AMD Eng Sample: 100-000001290-11_N [Family 26 Model 64 Stepping 0].” It’s important to note that these findings are not yet verified and should be regarded as unofficial until further confirmation is provided.
The possible indication that the spotted CPU could be an AMD Zen 5 chip is based on the usage of “Family 24” for Zen 3 and Zen 4 processors. Zen 5 is expected to belong to “Family 25.” Given that both of these entries share the same family, there is a strong likelihood that this could be the first evidence confirming that AMD currently has Zen 5 CPUs in their labs, fine-tuning them for a release in the upcoming year.
Alongside the potential AMD Zen 5 CPU entries, there were also indications of two unreleased GPUs. One is the AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE with 16 GB of memory, and the other is another Radeon RX GPU with 12 GB of memory. Notably, the RX 7900 Non-XT model does not currently exist, and the RX 7900 XT is equipped with 20 GB of memory. This suggests that the first GPU entry could be an upcoming graphics card. As for the second entry, it is likely to be either a variant of the Radeon RX 7800 or potentially part of the RX 7700 series.
AMD has provided indications that its Ryzen 8000 Desktop CPUs will be compatible with the AM5 platform and will introduce significant architectural advancements. These upgrades include Zen 5 for the CPU cores and RDNA 3.5 for the GPU cores. In addition to these improvements, AMD is expected to introduce a range of enhancements to the lineup. As a result, it is highly likely that we will witness a Zen 5 reveal or teaser during AMD’s upcoming major datacenter event scheduled for next week.
