TrendForce has recently cautioned about the growing supply of PC hardware in the market which has led to a decrease in consumer buying interest and has led to price cuts. This is especially true for DRAM, which has shown us the live example of oversupply with its price. Looking at the trend of DRAM manufacturers engaging in value deal offerings, TrendForce has predicted that the prices of DRAM purchases will fall by 13 to 18 percent by Q3 and another 3 to 8 percent by Q4.
It won’t be possible at this stage to determine how exactly the costs will drop this quarter for DDR4 and DDR5. However, in the coming periods, it appears that these ICs will drop by no less than 10 percent. We are still to see how exactly this will impact the costs of the actual modules because this fall Intel and AMD are both planning their DDR5-supported launches.
When chips were not easily available, many PC and other manufacturers stored memory in order to ensure a steady supply for their production. Now, instead of purchasing new DRAM stocks from the market, manufacturers will utilize the ones in their own stock.
