Crucial X6 & X8 Portable Solid State Drives Review

I am a huge fan of portable solid state drives. When they first started coming out they replaced the flash drives I used to carry with me. There were two reasons for this, speed and capacity. Portable solid state drives are extremely fast which makes them perfect for data transfers, a portable game drive, and even and editing drive. They are also available in large capacities, which is great for these applications as well. Today we will be taking a look at two portable solid state drives from Crucial, their X6 and X8. These drives are very similar, except that the X6 is a USB 3.2 gen 1 drive and the X8 is a USB 3.2 gen 2 drives. So the X6 will be the slower drive with speeds up to 540 MB/s, while the X8 is faster with speeds up to 1050 MB/s. Lets take a look at these drives and see what they are all about!

Special thanks to Crucial for providing us with the X6 & X8 Portable Solid State Drives to review.

Both the X6 and X8 comes in nice retail packages. On the front you have a photo of the drive itself, the capacity, and speed. For those wondering these drives are available in 1TB and 2TB versions, although recently Crucial announced 4TB and 500GB versions for the X6.

Getting everything out of the boxes you’ll find your drives, a user’s guide, and USB cable. Oddly enough the X6 only comes with the USB-C cable, while the X6 comes with the USB-C cable and a Type-A adapter.
