Intel Announces 13th Gen Core “Raptor Lake” Desktop CPU Family

Today, Intel has introduced the much awaited 13th Generation Core series, codenamed “Raptor Lake.”The new series comprises three SKUs, each with two variations (with and without built-in graphics). Compared to the 12th Generation Core series, the company is adding between 4 (for i5/i7) and 8 (for i9) cores to each sector.

The Core i9-13900K has a total of 68 MB of L2 and L3 cache and 24 cores (8P+16E). This SKU has a maximum boost frequency of 5.8 GHz and will retail at $589 with integrated UHD Graphics 770 or $564 without it.

Intel Raptor Lake 16-core (8P+8E) versions i7-13700K and i7-13700KF will be sold for 409 and 384 US dollars, respectively. Prices range from 319 USD (i5-13600K) to 294 USD (i5-13600KF) for the cheapest versions with 14 cores (6P+8E).

Intel claims a 15% improvement in single-threaded performance and a 41% improvement in multi-threaded performance. These enhancements are mostly the result of higher frequency and thread count. Intel’s new Z790 high-end platform has more PCIe Gen4 lanes and more USB 3.0 Gen 22 20 Gbps connections.

Intel asserts gaming leadership with the i9-13900K, which achieves performance parity with the 12900K at 65W. Intel statistics indicate that the new SKU is up to 37 percent quicker with the same 241W TDP.

Intel also revealed the gaming performance of its flagship 24-core SKU, giving a greater ’99th percentile low-water mark’ FPS. It has been confirmed by Intel that the 13th Generation Core series will be available on October 20th, the same day that Z790 motherboards will be put up for sale.
