Intel Core i9 Chips Coming To Mobile

When Intel launched their Core X series they had both Core i9 and Core i7 parts in the series. The reason for the new Core i9 branding was to differentiate between the chips that had 28 and 16-lane PCIe interfaces, and the ones that offered the full 44-lane interface. The Core i9 brand also took core count and pricing to the next level, starting at $999 for the Core i8-7900X and going all the way up to $1999 for the 18-core i9-7980XE. It looks like Intel will be bringing the Core i9 brand to the mobile platform

Intel’s Core i9 mobile processor family could bring the highest level of 6-core “Coffee Lake” desktop processor performance to the mobile platform. Intel is putting the final touches on the Core i9-8000 series “Coffee Lake-H” processors lineup. This lineup is likely to feature full 6-core, 12-thread configurations of the “Coffee Lake” silicon, along with 12 MB of L3 cache.

The first SKU in this series could be the Core i9-8950HK, which has been discovered in the change-log of the latest version of FinalWire’s AIDA64. This chips will likely find their way into large gaming notebooks with one of more high-end graphics cards and 4K UHD screens.
