There are a lot of choices out in the market for tablets and some are just capable of doing the bare minimum to get you to buy and not return it for your money back. Buyer’s remorse is sure to follow, but The iRULU WalknBook is NOT in this category.

Today we are looking at the newest version of the iRULU WalknBook 3 W1005 and just from my initial research into this product it definitely has been growing better and better with age. Yes, we reviewers read other reviews during our research to ensure we are giving the consumer the best information we possibly can. It is essential, just so we don’t miss anything that others might catch on the good side and the bad.

I would categorize this tablet with the build quality of a Samsung Tablet with the power of full Windows 10 Home experience. The heavy-duty construction is heavy and the solid button feel is tight. Actually, in my opinion, the way this iRULU WalknBook 3 feels in the hand and in the user experience like a high-quality hybrid tablet/Notebook computer. It’s fully functional 10.1 inch IPS display is bright and true and the computer shares the same Bay Trail Z3735F ATOM Quad-Core / 7th generation Intel processor that some of its competition use. The unit is quick and responsive in many usual applications that don’t require the need for super number crunching skills. I have had some past experience with some of the earlier generations of these mini PC’s that have been ATOM Bay Trail powered and they are very surprising at how quick and responsive they are to commands from touch, keyboard touchpad, mouse or keyboard RETURN key execution. These Intel ATOM Bay Trail processors are uniquely Intel quality and amazingly quick and nimble for normal workflow and exceptionally low power draw with a fully loaded power consumption of this processor is a mere 2.2 Watts at full load, giving the user a longer than usual time on battery power.

The newest iRULU WalknBook 3 W1005 has been slowly evolving with newer and better features from its previous iRULU W1003 version. Gone is the Origami style cover slash stand that was part of the previous W1003 with Windows 8.1 installed. The older keyboard section has been replaced with a very sturdy high tension laptop style hinged unit that holds the tablet tightly in place the same way a regular laptop holds its screen steady. It also has been updated with the newest Windows 10 Home OS and a more powerful 7000mAH Lithium-ion battery for longer battery life.

The once plastic stubs that held the tablet to the keyboard has been strongly re-engineered with steel reinforced pair of metal stubs with a metal locking clips that connect the tablet to the keyboard section that is included with the all in this one package deal. The unit when fitted together is held more securely and more ease of removal but the locks are fully functional while attached in the Hybrid laptop mode. The centrally located button has cannot be accidentally pressed because full depression is required to lose the tablet from the hinges. The Tablet can easily function without the Keyboard when the user is one the go, and in the center of the interface are 5 gold plated spring loaded pins that fit onto 5 bowl-shaped base contacts which interconnects the keyboard and the tablet easily. Since the interconnection pins between the base and the tablet allow for more tolerance for less restricted movement spring contacts connect to the base surely every time without trying to make sure everything is lined up to the last micrometer. The newest version of the iRULU WalknBook W1005 10.1-inch Tablet comes with Wi-Fi b/g/n interconnect-ability that changes with your needs to conserve power and it is advertised for 3G cellular service where available, but I was not able to verify this by a driver, device or signal.

The Screen has a large 10.1-inch touch screen display and is a fully fledged Windows 10 Home PC in Tablet form. This newest WalknBook 3 W1005 has the full and fastest 2 GB of DDR3L-RS 1333 RAM which is the maximum amount of RAM for the Intel Z3735F Bay trail Processor can take. The 32GB of SSD Storage could be bit larger, but that would increase the overall price as well. Storage size aside the interfaces is all PCIe style connected instead of using the typical SATA type interface. This creates a quicker, highway type of traffic, allowing non-stop transmission and fewer problems with memory traffic from the processor to the Storage and back again. The built-in storage is enough to store the Windows 10 operating system and additional vital systems programs like office and a few other thing leaving a little under half of the available memory ready for anything else, so Cloud Service or a plugin Mini SD memory card for a maximum of 128 GB of overall onboard storage is advised. This internal SD Card slot is covered with a rubber door and can really be useful for other larger applications as well as personal data files, pictures or video storage and play. More on that later in the Review.

Since this Tablet PC is essentially a tool, I highly recommend the strong sure build quality of the iRULU. The Screen is a bit lower resolution with 1280 x 800 that the typical Microsoft Surface models that have a 2K capability, but it also does not come with the price tag of the Surface either. From a tool point of view, this system would be great for college, outdoor projects, entertainment, homework, and research. The camera is only 2 megapixels but works well for basic Skype type communications. The startup is fast and the battery life is exceptional. There are inputs for Bluetooth Devices, SD Card, HDMI out is great for presentations of basic services and the connectivity is fast enough to do a medium workload. While I would not suggest that the iRULU W1005 Tablet PC is on the same level as the $900.00 i5 Tablets like the Surface, this is still not a slow and under-powered unit either. It is a smaller tool for a lighter workload and fits the price range that most can afford and is sure to last a long enough to recoup your investment pay for it.
