NVIDIA To End Production of GeForce RTX 20 ‘Turing’ Series As GeForce RTX 30 ‘Ampere’ Graphics Cards Launch Gets Closer

As per the report by lthome, Nvidia has halted the production of GeForce RTX 20 “Turing ” lineup to accommodate the upcoming GeForce RTX 30 “Amper” Graphic Card Series. The report also stated that the majority of high-end cards for GeForce RTX 20 series are not only being discontinued but they won’t be available from its major vendors (Asus, Msi, etc.) too as they proceed to prepare for the upcoming lineup.

The GeForce RTX 20 Turing series that is planned to be discontinued are as follows:

● GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
● GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER
● GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER
● GeForce RTX 2070

The above-mentioned cards are from the high-end segment. These cards use different Turing GPU, TU102 on the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, the TU104 on GeForce RTX 2080 & RTX 2070 SUPER, and the TU106 GPU on the GeForce RTX 2070. The report not only stated that these cards will be discontinued but also included the information that they would be excluded from the list by the upcoming manufacturers.

This move would give better pricing for the upcoming Ampere cards as the vendors, and the retailers would not be forced to hike the prices to clear the prior inventory as they did during the release of Turing cards. Due to mining craze, a lot of cards of the series before Turing lineup were produced. This also means the vendors will price the cards at the MSRP suggested by NVIDIA.

People who are willing to purchase the RTX 20 Series cards would be upset as vendors are planning for a price hike. The revival of the mining craze (reported by My drivers) will result in the price hike of commonly used / higher mid-range graphic cards like GTX 1650 super or RTX 2060. Reasonable prices for the next series will cut the price hike out of the market and will also boost the sales of the NVIDIA Geforce RTX Ampere series.
