What comes as not surprising news, TAITRA cancels Computex 2020 due to the COVID19 pandemic that affected worldwide. Computex is an annual tech show and expo. What sets it up apart is the showcasing of PC hardware, peripherals and accessories from leading companies and OEMs.
Postponement of the expo before the announcement of the cancellation
Traditionally, Computex is usually set during the early June of every year. The original date was from June 2nd, 2020 to June 6th. Due to the uncontrollable situation and COVID19’s ability to spread, it was postponed to September 28th till September 30. Between the original date and the new one, many companies opted out of the expo. Since exhibitors and media need time to plan, delay or cancel, it makes sense to make the announcement now.
The organization released a comment, reflecting the current situation around the world:
As of June 11, more than 7,350,000 people have been diagnosed across 187 countries worldwide, affecting the economy, trade, transportation, convention and tourism. With credit to Taiwan’s government got a head start on smashing the virus, Taiwan has only 443 confirmed cases
This wasn’t time Computex had a delay due to an outbreak, with the Computex 2003 delayed until September at the time because of SARS outbreak. TAITRA’s wait and hope are with experience but seeing how globally widespread this outbreak is, its best to can Computex 2020 and think about next year.
New dates and Exhibitor’s alternative
The new date is set for Computex 2021 held between June 1st and June 5th. We should be seeing many companies having online expos, such as Thermaltake which had one some days ago.
