Xbox game streaming service Project xCloud may not come to iOS as Apple raises individual game review concerns

It looks like the gatekeeping battle between tech giants is about to hit an all-time high. Apple today revealed that they’re blocking Project xCloud on iOS because they cannot review every game on Game Pass. Read on!

Apple made the revelation in a statement to Business Insider. Apple says it is blocking the Xbox game streaming service from iOS:

“The App Store was created to be a safe and trusted place for customers to discover and download apps, and a great business opportunity for all developers.

Before they go on our store, all apps are reviewed against the same set of guidelines that are intended to protect customers and provide a fair and level playing field to developers.

Our customers enjoy great apps and games from millions of developers, and gaming services can absolutely launch on the App Store as long as they follow the same set of guidelines applicable to all developers, including submitting games individually for review, and appearing in charts and search.

In addition to the App Store, developers can choose to reach all iPhone and iPad users over the web through Safari and other browsers on the App Store.”

Of course, Microsoft is not happy about this and gave its own statement in return, which was quite critical of Apple. Microsoft claims Apple treats gaming apps differently. Microsoft is also saying they will find a way to bring xCloud to iOS.

Apple has been under fire for its anti-compete practices lately, and this one is drawing a lot of attention. Many say this is Apple’s way of keeping competition from its own Game Pass-like service, Apple Arcade.
