An unofficial project bringing NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 Neural Rendering to AMD Radeon cards has reached a new performance milestone. Its developer says the latest alpha build runs Cyberpunk 2077 at 75 FPS on an RX 9070 XT at 1080p using a new Fast mode. The result reflects rapid optimization, but the software remains experimental.

Key takeaways

  • Alpha 0.4.3 reportedly reaches 75 FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p on an RX 9070 XT.
  • The update claims 18% better performance in Fast mode and 20% in Reference quality mode versus Alpha 0.4.2.
  • The mod is unofficial and may have game compatibility, stability, and visual-quality limitations.

A faster mode reaches the 75 FPS mark

The project, DLSS-NR-on-AMD, is an independent implementation intended to run DLSS 5 Neural Rendering on Radeon GPUs. Its developer, Daniel Blanco, calls Alpha 0.4.3 the “75 FPS update,” citing performance in Cyberpunk 2077 with the RX 9070 XT in Fast mode. The figure is a developer-reported result, not a standardized comparison across systems.

Fast mode uses less intensive calculations than Reference mode, with the developer describing the visual difference as slight. The update reports performance gains of 18% in Fast mode and 20% in Reference quality mode over Alpha 0.4.2. Fast mode is now the default for RX 9000-series cards, while RX 7000-series GPUs are limited to Reference mode, according to the project’s release details.

Optimization has moved quickly

Earlier builds delivered substantial gains in quick succession: Alpha 0.3.3 was reported to improve performance by 23% over 0.3.2, followed by a 42% gain with Alpha 0.4.0 over 0.3.3. In a separate Cyberpunk 2077 test, that 0.4.0 build reached roughly 50 FPS at 3440 × 1440. Results from different versions and resolutions should not be treated as a direct benchmark comparison with the new 1080p result.

The latest update also adds an overlay-key setting and fixes issues with the overlay and settings editor. Other community tools, including AMDNR Launcher, aim to simplify setup by automating installation and letting users select between available runtimes. That may make experimentation more accessible to Radeon owners, though it does not make the underlying rendering workload inexpensive.

Experimental software comes with caveats

DLSS-NR-on-AMD is not an official NVIDIA or AMD feature, and performance and compatibility can vary by game, GPU, and configuration. The project’s alpha status means bugs and visual artifacts remain possible. DLL-injection-based modding can also conflict with anti-cheat systems, so these tools are best kept to offline, single-player use.

For PC builders and Radeon users, the 75 FPS report is a notable sign of how quickly community optimization can progress. It is not evidence that the mod matches an official DLSS implementation in image quality, support, or reliability, but it does show a developing option for testing neural rendering on AMD hardware.
