Android System Mechanic: How to Speed Up Devices

Every single year, new Android smartphones are released. All of the best manufacturers in the world are trying to keep up with each other, and that means plenty of updates. It is good news for consumers who always want the best of the best, but it can be exhausting for those looking to hold onto their current phone for a while.

When each new release comes out, that means the previous version is older and slower. There are a few different ways to go about speeding up devices. Being able to control what is being processed in the background and handling downloaded programs and apps make a big difference. Even updating the operating system can help considerably.

Every phone, at some point, gets replaced, but you can get the most life out of what you have. Getting a bit more speed with all devices is simple by doing a little bit of maintenance or relying on a utility that will automate a lot of work. These are a few tips on how to speed up tablet speeds, avoid dreaded Android slow internet, eliminate freezing issues, and so much more.

Clearing Out System Cache

Each app used on a device has files that are loaded into the system cache. This is done for convenience and easier access. Ironically, what is meant to work to speed up an application performance can actually slow down a device over time. That is because too many cache files take up a lot of storage space, And once the device is loaded up, it can slow down considerably.

The best way to fix this issue is to look at the storage settings on a device. By going to settings and clicking on storage, each app shows up with an opportunity to look at them further. There will be a Clear Cache button that appears when each app is selected, and it is a pretty simple process for people to do on their own.

Disable App Animations

So many apps in today’s world have all kinds of animations built-in. This is positive for the user experience when they work correctly, but animations can be detrimental to an older device’s speed. If it seems like it is impacting the speed, turning these animations off is a great solution.

Unfortunately, there is not one simple settings button that will fix animations and stop them forever. In fact, a person has to go through Developer Options on their device to get the fix they need.

The hardest part is getting to the Developer Options settings on a device. A person needs to select System > About Phone > Software Information and then find the build number listed. After that, they click Build Number seven times and enter the PIN. Once returning to the Settings app, selecting System will show a new option called Developer Options. After clicking on Developer Options, select Transition Animation Scale and Turn Off animations.

There is always the option of turning off Developer Settings after making this change, but some people leave them as they are. It is really up to an individual, as some other changes can be made when in Developer Options mode down the road.

Removing Unused Apps

Everyone is guilty of collecting a few apps on their devices that are not needed. It seems relatively harmless at first, but it can become more and more of a problem as time goes on. When looking for some quick storage space, deleting unused apps is one of the simplest ways to go.

Some apps take up a lot more space than others, so finding the ones that are unnecessary and also big will make sure that a person only needs to make a few adjustments here and there. Even deleting just one massive app can make a difference on some older Android devices. The deletion process is pretty simple, and each individual will know exactly what should and should not stay.

There are two options to delete an app. The easiest is to press a finger on the app for an extended period of time until an uninstall button shows up. There is also the option to go to Settings  >  Apps  >  App Info and selecting Turn Off.

Stopping all background processes

Most Android devices, by default, are always doing some type of work. Apps are running in the background in so many cases, ensuring that they get the information they need. However, this takes up many resources, and most are unnecessary for all users out there. If that is the case, turning off background processes can considerably help when it comes to a device that needs speeding up.

There is the option of turning off all background processes, but that might not be feasible for some people. For example, most people want to have their devices checking for emails coming in without automatically refreshing all the time. Since that is the case, the better option is to go from app to app individually and figure out what background processes are necessary.

For those that need to be disabled, going back into Developer Options, as highlighted above, will provide new options. Once in the Developer Options, select Settings > System > Developer Options > Background Check. Go through the entire list and disable anything that does not need to run in the background all the time.

Empty trash

The longer a person owns a device, the easier it is to start collecting old files. This is innocent enough at the beginning but can be very challenging later on. To remove all files, start by going through the entire device and checking everything out. An easy way to empty trash on the device is to click on Settings > Storage > Cleanup. This will allow people to comb through the device in a much more efficient manner, removing any old files that are no longer needed.

Update the Operating System

Does the current device have the most up-to-date operating system? If not, this might be a pretty simple fix that will change things up right away. It is recommended to upgrade to the newest operating system every time a new one is released unless it seems like the device is too out of date to receive the update.

These updates to the operating system are aimed to make things more efficient, plug up any vulnerabilities, and other fixes. People should look at them as a positive, not a negative. If an update to the operating system is available, go ahead and give it a try and see what works.

If the prompt does not automatically come up, a person can check to see if there is an update available by clicking on Settings > System Updates. If there is a system update, there will be a button to install right away.

Set the device back to factory settings

If no fixes seem to be working, taking the device back to factory settings is an option worth exploring. It is a way to start brand new, and any problematic issues can be deleted. It is still going to be a slower device since it is older than the newest versions out, but it is a way to test whether an upgrade is necessary.

Before going through a complete restart, make sure to have all important files properly backed up. Once a device is reverted to factory settings, a user will lose all data. The way to go back to factory settings is to click on Settings > System > Back-Up > Backup to Google > Restart Reset > Factory Data Reset.

Why Speed Matters

A faster device can make a huge difference in how productive someone can be daily. If an Android phone running slow and freezing is an issue, it is worth exploring some of the options out there. System Mechanic is one tool that works well for all mobile devices, as well as tablets, computers, and more.

It takes less time than ever before to get something working the way it should. Try the tips above, and at least one is bound to make a difference. It might surprise just how much of a difference it makes.
