CES 2024 – Hands On With Samsung’s New Gaming Monitors

CES 2024 got off to an early start tonight with Samsung’s First Look event at Caesar’s Palace here in Las Vegas. We got a chance to sit down and experience a variety of gaming experiences with multiple new monitors from Samsung, and I have to say, each year Samsung on-ups themselves with their amazing new releases. Check out the details below on our favorite monitors of the evening!

Odyssey OLED G9

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 is a 49″ curved ultra-wide monitor with a resolution of 5,120 x 1,440 (that’s DQHD for those wondering), which is presented in a 32:9 aspect ratio. With a 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms response time, the Odyssey OLED G9’s support for AMD’s FreeSync Premium Pro makes this monitor an amazing option for those looking for a smooth gaming experience at the highest levels. Thrown in a DisplayHDR True Black 400 rating, two HDMI 2.1 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.4 port, USB hub, and fully adjustable stand, and you have a feature-packed monitor that will make the most seasoned gamer envious. Samsung also included their Glare-free OLED technology to minimize light reflections for the best viewing experience possible in nearly any lighting situation.

Odyssey OLED G8

A bit smaller, and without the curve, is the new Odyssey OLED G8. The G8 is offered in a 32″ form factor, with a 4K resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio. It offers the same 240Hz refresh rate and 0.03 response time as the G9, and also includes the same connectivity options (two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, USB hub), as well as the adjustable stand. Additionally, you also get the True Black 400 HDR rating and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support. Another awesome feature of the Odyssey OLED G8 was just how thin it was, it is pretty wild just how thin these displays have become, and that is true not only for these monitors, but for some of the amazing television screens that Samsung was also showing.

Odyssey OLED G6

27 inch

If you’re looking for a bit more speed, then the Odyssey OLED G6 might be the monitor for you. With a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, this 27″ monitor offers a blazing-fast 360Hz refresh rate and 0.03 response time – exactly what fast-paced FPS gamers and MOBA players are looking for. With the Odyssey OLED G6 you get the same connections (two HDMI 2.1 ports, one DisplayPort 1.4 port, USB hub), as well as the adjustable stand, True Black 400 HDR, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro. Just like the G8, the Odyssey OLED G6 is a super-thin monitor, showcasing how precise and compact these monitors are getting.

OLED Glare-Free

All three of these monitors feature Samsung’s OLED Glare-Free technology, which results in reduced light reflections in a variety of lighting settings. This feature lets gamers enjoy consistent color and brightness performance without the need for any additional hardware or changes to the play environment. With a reduction in reflections, your focus can be locked in on what is going on on the screen, as opposed to what you might see in the monitor’s reflection, further immersing you in the gaming experience.

Odyssey Neo G9

While not released here at CES 2024, we also took a look at the 57″ Odyssey NEO G9, a dual 4K display using Samsung’s Quantum Mini-LED technology. Mounted to a racing rig, I was able to experience driving tuned import cars in an astounding 7,680 x 2160 resolution, at an impressive 240Hz refresh rate. The visuals on this monitor were amazing, thanks to an HDR 1000 rating, and the use of Quantum Mini-LEDs. The 1000R curve of the screen helped suck me in to the action on screen, while the 1ms refresh rate and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro support served up a buttery-smooth experience.

Odyssey Ark 2nd Gen

Another monitor we took a look at was the latest version of the Odyssey Ark, the Ark 2nd Gen. This 55″ 4K Mini-LED curved display is often seen in its Cockpit Mode for its unique take on the vertical monitor trend. Stacking multiple windows on top of each other gives you a ton of productivity options, and with the ability to utilize four inputs, you can really get creative with your setup. The Ark 2nd Gen’s 1000R curve improves gaming immersion, while the 4K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate offer up smooth, detailed imagery.
