Fortnite To Get Nvidia RTX Ray Tracing Support on PC

You must be sick and tired of the fight between Epic Games and Apple but we’ve got something which will cheer you up! Epic has made an announcement, parallel to NVIDIAs GeForce RTX 30 series announcement, according to which Fortnite will add support for three technologies: NVIDIA Reflex, DLSS, and real-time ray tracing. NVIDIA reflex efficiently uses the GPU and CPU power to reduce the lag by 50%.

DLSS and real-time ray tracing are already known as they were provided with Turing-based GeForce RTX cards. A deep learning network is used with RTX Tensor Cores to enhance game performance and maintain sharp colors. Ray tracing contributes to the cartoonish look of Fortnite characters.

As per NVIDIA, the following ray-tracing enhancements are expected in the next Fortnite update:

Ray-traced reflections – Recreates the way light reflects on glossy and metal surfaces, including smooth natural mirrors like window glass and rougher surfaces like brushed metal.

Ray-traced shadows – Accurately models shadowing on many surfaces while enhancing surface and contact detail, and fixes problems associated with traditional shadow techniques.

Ray-traced global illumination – Calculates world lighting with massively increased precision, illuminating Fortnite’s environments, players and characters with unprecedented detail, fidelity, and clarity.

Ray-traced ambient occlusion – Where objects or surfaces meet, light is occluded, creating subtle shadows that can highlight the slightest of surface details.

These additions can help Fortnite gain an even bigger global audience. Not to forget it currently has a 350 million global user base.

Marcus Wassmer, engineering director for Graphics at Epic Games, said that NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 Series proves NVIDIAs commitment towards ray tracing and artificial intelligence. He also said that the innovative use of AI with DLSS and the drastic performance increase makes it a powerhouse for game graphics.

DLSS and real-time ray tracing support in Fortnite will be available to all GeForce RTX cards including Turing and Ampere, while Nvidia Reflex is available for GeForce 900 Series, and newer graphic cards.
