Game install sizes have come to be somewhat of a meme in 2020, with Call of Duty leading the foray. Fortnite has not been too far behind, as the once light game came to occupy nearly 100GB of disk space with newer updates. It seems like Epic Games has decided to dial it back a notch as the latest update cut this install size massively.
The new update, version 14.40, is the annual Halloween update for Fortnite, bringing in the Fortnitemares event. This is a huge update, clocking in at 27GB. However, the company pointed out the silver lining, and that is the fact that the game will now only take 31.5GB of your disk space, rather than the usual 99GB. Epic Games says we should be able to see better load times with this update.
Please note the patch size will be larger than normal on PC (approx. 27 GB). This is to make optimizations on PC resulting in a massively reduced Fortnite file size (over 60 GB smaller), smaller downloads for future patches, and improved loading performance.
