MSI and TCL CSOT have unveiled the PRO MAX OLED 271UPJW12, which MSI describes as the world’s first 27-inch 4K monitor combining inkjet-printed OLED technology with a 120Hz refresh rate. The professional display pairs OLED contrast with an RGB Stripe layout intended to improve text clarity, while adding productivity tools and background panel maintenance.

Key takeaways

The monitor is designed to serve demanding office, creative, and entertainment users in one desktop display.

  • 27-inch flat 4K panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 164 pixels per inch
  • Inkjet-printed OLED panel with a conventional RGB Stripe subpixel arrangement
  • 99% DCI-P3 coverage, Delta E ≤ 2 accuracy, and DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification
  • HDR peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits
  • Integrated KVM, PiP/PbP, adjustable stand, and USB-C connectivity
  • MSI OLED Auto Care protection that operates in the background

A new approach to OLED panel production

Developed in collaboration with TCL CSOT, the monitor uses inkjet printing to deposit OLED material directly onto the glass substrate. The process is intended to improve manufacturing yields and potentially reduce costs compared with conventional fine-metal-mask evaporation, although MSI has not announced pricing or availability.

The panel’s standard RGB Stripe structure is particularly important for professional users. Many OLED monitors use unconventional subpixel arrangements that can produce colored fringing around fine text. MSI says the new layout more closely resembles a traditional LCD, producing cleaner lettering and sharper desktop interfaces at its high 164 PPI density.

Color, HDR, and 120Hz performance

The 3840-by-2160 display covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and is factory-rated for Delta E ≤ 2 accuracy. It also carries VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and can reach up to 1,000 nits in HDR highlights. OLED technology supplies the deep blacks and extremely high contrast associated with the panel type.

The 120Hz refresh rate is faster than typical professional monitors and should provide smoother scrolling, animation, and compatible gaming. MSI says the display supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and is NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible.

Background OLED care and eye-comfort features

MSI’s OLED Auto Care system is designed to reduce image-retention risk without forcing users to stop working or gaming for a visible maintenance cycle. The company says its Data Counting Compensation process calculates and applies panel compensation dynamically in the background.

The monitor also uses a 3H anti-glare coating, which MSI claims offers 2.5 times the scratch resistance of its previous 2H surface. EyesErgo features include TÜV-certified low-blue-light and flicker-free technologies, Eyesafe 3.0 certification, and Circadian Protection Factor compliance.

Built for multi-device workspaces

A built-in KVM switch lets users control multiple connected systems with one keyboard and mouse, while Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes support simultaneous sources. The monitor includes HDMI 2.1 inputs, DisplayPort 1.4a, USB-C display connectivity with power delivery, USB-A ports, audio output, speakers, and a Kensington lock slot.

Its compact flat base and fully adjustable ergonomic stand are intended to preserve desk space. MSI is also positioning the display for Mac users through its M-Mate software, which provides monitor control and color synchronization. Pricing and a release date remain undisclosed.
