Everyone has been wondering how much improvement the upcoming GeForce GTX 780 would have over the card that it is replacing the GeForce GTX 680. We now know as the first benchmarks of the upcoming GeForce GTX 780 have been revealed by the Chiphell forums. The benchmarks show that the GeForce GTX 780 is about 20% faster than the GeForce GTX 680.
Of course we have already mentioned what the expected specifications for the card would be. It would be based on a cut down version of the GK110 core codenamed “GK110-300-A2″. Unlike the GeForce GTX Titan that has 14 streaming multiprocessors and 2688 cores the GTX 780 will have 12 streaming multiprocessors and 2304 cores. The included 3 GB of GDDR5 memory will operate along a 320/384 bit memory bus. The card is expected to use the same cooler as the one on the GeForce GTX Titan.
The test results below show that the GeForce GTX 780 is about 20% faster than the GeForce GTX 680. The tests that were run were 3DMark, 3DMark 11 and Valley Benchmark. Of course these are synthetic tests it will be interested to see the performance of the card using real games.
The GeForce GTX 780 will launch on May 23rd as the flagship card of the 700 series and the GTX 770 will follow on May 31st with the GTX 760 Ti launching in June.
