Patriot will be looking to join the others in the high-end M.2, NVMe SSD crowd with their upcoming Viper SSD family. They were showing off a Viper-branded M.2 solid state drive that features Phison’s latest E12 controller. The E12 controller from Phison is NVMe 1.3 compliant, supports 8 NAND channels, and delivers a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface with strong ECC algorithms.
This controller will be paired with Toshiba’s 64-layer BICS 3D NAND flash. These drives will succeed Patriot’s current Hellfire M.2 NVMe solid state drives with a more modern design, better performance as well as features.
The Viper M.2 SSDs will be available in capacities from 240GB to 2TB and Patriot quotes the Phison E12 controller speeds at 3200 MB/s sequential read, 3000 MB/s sequential write, and 600K random write IOPS. Since the drives shown off by Patriot already carry product stickers and retail packaging expect these drives sooner than later.
