Radeon RX 480’s Can Be Flashed To RX 580’s

Well it looks like you are able to flash your Radeon RX 480 to an RX 580. A user on the TechPowerUp forums successfully flashed his XFX RX 480 with a BIOS from a Sapphire RX 580 Limited Edition. The user obtained the BIOS and then used ATIFlash to complete the process. The XFX RX 480 did have a dual-BIOS and this is something you might want to consider when doing any type of GPU BIOS flashing.

AMD RX 480 Removed From PCI-SIG Integrator List

The PCI-SIG Integrators list is a list of hardware devices implementing the various PCI-Express specifications to the letter. AMD's Radeon RX 480 was on the list, but has been removed. The reason for this is that the card draws more power than its spec. According to specifications the card should draw 75W from the PCI-Express slot and another 75W from its 6-pin power connector. The RX 4870 was tested to draw more power than this 150W power budget.

PowerColor Radeon RX 480 Red Devil Pictured

Power Color is prepping a custom version of the Radeon RX 480, it will be the Radeon RX 480 Red Devil and photos of the card have been leaked to the web. From the photos we can see that the card features a large 3-fan cooler, which seems to be a bit longer than the actual board itself. This should deliver much better cooling to all sections of the card. The card also will feature a full-cover backplate.

4GB Radeon RX 480 Can Be Flashed To 8GB Version

We've been able to unlock shaders with BIOS mods in the past on AMD graphics cards, but how about doubling the memory? Apparently some 4GB variants of the card actually contain the same memory chips as the 8GB variant with 4GB of that disabled in the BIOS. This means you can flash the BIOS of the card to a BIOS of an 8GB card and unlock that extra 4GB of memory!

Sapphire Radeon RX 480 Nitro Detailed

More pictures of Sapphire's Radeon RX 480 Nitro have been released. This was the first custom RX 480 offering we saw back in June. The card features a custom-designed PCB and a large new-generation cooling solution. While the first set of photos showed a silver/chrome color of the cooler shroud, the card's final design will feature a gunmetal finish.

AMD Radeon RX 480 Graphics Card Now Available

AMD has just announced availability of the Radeon RX 480 graphics card. As of right now the card is only available in the larger 8GB variant. The more cost-effective 4GB model at $199 is slated to be released in July. The 8GB variant that launched today will retail for $229. The card is based on the 14nm Polaris 10 silicon and takes advantage of AMD's 4th generation Graphics CoreNext (GCN) architecture.
