SumoSac Sultan Beanbag Chair - July 8, 2008

One thing I always enjoyed when I was growing up was the 2 beanbag chairs we had in the house. Beanbag-type chairs have sure changed since then and are now bigger, more comfortable, and look a hell of a lot nicer. A while ago we took a look at the Sumo Omni and Otto beanbag chairs, they were sure a step above my old beanbags. Today we will be looking at one of Sumo's latest products, the SumoSac. Let's check it out!

Thermaltake Armor+ MX PC Case - July 7, 2008

Today we got a chance to look at the Thermaltake Armor+ MX VH8000BWS Mid Tower Case. The VH8000 series cases, eight total, come in both silver and black and some also include power supplies and pre-installed water cooling systems. Some handy features of this case include a compact design with an optimal cooling system for both liquid and air systems. The included 23cm fan keeps parts cool while being extremely quiet, despite its huge size. Read on further to learn more about this case.

Sigma SP-700 700W Power Supply - July 3, 2008

ThinkComputers liked Sigma's Shark 635W when we reviewed in in February. It was a decent, affordable unit with a unique exterior design. The quad 12V-railed, 700 watt SP-700 is Sigma's newest model, and it ditches most of the qualities which made the Shark so unique. Despite its exterior, the functionality of the unit is still pretty decent. Read on, through, and see where Sigma could improve the SP-700.

ASRock K10N780SLIX3-WiFi nForce 780a SLI Motherboard - July 2, 2008

ASRock has placed the nForce 780a SLI on their flagship AM2+ board, the K10N780SLIX3-Wifi, only one of a small handful of nForce 780a SLI boards on the market. Actually, this one is not yet for sale in the states. A quick glance at this board will tell you it isn't the typical ASRock motherboard with some features you might expect from Asus, Gigabyte, or the like. Today, I will be looking at the K10N780SLIX3-Wifi. Will nVidia's geForce Boost, an onboard GPU working in conjunction with the PCI-E video card(s) prove to be a true innovation, or will it be the let-down that the naysayers predict? Will the K10N780SLIX3-Wifi move ASRock from the ranks of the econo-board to the big boys? Stay tuned to see!

SilenX iXtrema IXC-12HA2 CPU Cooler - July 1, 2008

The SilenX brand is most commonly known for their cool and quiet case fans. SilenX, however, does manufacture heatsinks, power supplies, and other goodies. Today SilenX gave us the opportunity to review the SilenX iXtrema IXC-120HA2 Pro Series Heatsink. This vertical fin stack design offers plenty one of SilenX's very own case fans, we actually got two to test out. The features include a fan speed controller, exposed copper heatpipes on the base, and an entirely screw-less design making for an easy and tool-less installation.

"The NightJar Fanless PSU series is available in two flavors, 300W and 450W. I’ll be reviewing the Nightjar 450W Zero dBA Fanless Power Supply (SST-ST45NF) which peaks at 500W and this is more than enough power for a HTPC or a silent gaming build. This PSU uses solid state Capacitors which results in cleaner more reliable power than cheap capacitors found in many other PSUs on the market. The housing is made from thick aluminum and it acts as a heastink since this PSU does have a fan to keep it cool. It also has plenty of ventilation holes, but it's crucial to have excellent case ventilation to insure this PSU gets adequate cooling. Watch the video to find out more."

"The 4870 is an excellent card, but for now, all the models are functionally identical, and there are yet to be factory-overclocked cards, let alone custom-cooled models. Variation ranges from changing the sticker to adding spiffy adapters. If you buy Diamond, you're not buying a different card, you're buying better service, only they're not charging extra."

"The test results show that the Coolink GPUChilla dropped the idle temperatures by 49% and the load temperatures by an impressive 45%! Our only complaint on the Radeon HD 4850 was how hot the card ran and the Coolink GPUChilla took cooling to the next level. The 49% reduction at idle put the Radeon HD 4850 at 33C, which is better than we expected. The factory heat sink works, but it obviously leaves room for improvement..."

"A few years ago we looked at a few Qpad mousepads and since then these pads have been used by us. I have not been able to find another pad that works as well as these and and because of this we are going to look at the new CT pad which is available in various sizes and colors. This new CT pad lets you choose between a soft or hard top depending on the thickness you choose."

"Today I'll be looking at a new introduction to the lapdesk market from LapLogic.com. Actually two new models with one being regular sized and one being the super-sized model. They're called the new AeroGel Extreme and AeroGel Extreme - Wide laptop desks. With so much competition out there, let's see what sets these new units apart from the pack."

"Overall, I think that the X4 9350e and 9150e are a very welcome addition. AMD's Phenom processors are generally pretty power hungy, so it is good to have some more efficient models to choose from. As we've seen, it can be a pretty potent chip when combined with multi-core friendly applications. Its low TDP, four cores and decent performance make it a great choice for an HTPC or an everyday desktop PC for an environmentally conscious multitasker."

"As of late there has been a few companies that have branded their PSUs with "SLI Certified" logos that weren't actually certified. We decided to see if this feature was accurate so we went over to the SLI Zone and found the Everest 80Plus 700W unit in the list for dual GeForce 7900GTX or dual GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB cards. These are pretty dated, and I'm sure that the PSU could handle newer cards, but this is what it is certified for."

"Tagan has done an excellent job with the Black Pearl aluminum chassis in many ways due to the fact that it offers a variety of features and no real drawbacks of any type in its overall achievement. From its front control panel and easy access pop-out USB 2.0 ports to its roomy interior and solid construction the Black Pearl is winner. The fact that the BP comes geared for liquid cooling is another bonus that will highly benefit the user that is planning on exercising that feature. The only drawback to this fine enclosure is it’s close to $300.00 price tag that will daunt many users on a budget, but for those who do not care for price and do not want to skimp on their case, this is a bad boy. "

"I always love it when new items come into the market. Nothing is better than new CPU's or new Video cards to get people excited about computers. It's especially exciting when the two largest gaming video card manufacturers release new products within a week of each other. The last few weeks have been very exciting ones with all sorts of video card reviews popping up all over the net. Forums have been flooded with new ammunition for the long debate; which video card is better? I don't think it's possible to answer that question and I'm not going to try. I'm just going to add more benchmark fuel to the fire and let you make up your own mind."

"Diablotek isn't the most popular component manufacturer name on the street. In fact, I'm sure you haven't heard of them before now, and it might be a while before you hear of them again. They showed up in 2003 in Taipei, putting together mid-ranged, no frills graphics cards. Since then, they have expanded into all sorts of different product lines, from case fans to external enclosures; they even make a 7.1 soundcard and laptop batteries."

"When you take a look at the cooler from an overhead view, you will be able to see that Silenx has decided to polish the top to add a little bit of cosmetic value to the cooler and add its company name, that way you will know exactly who is cooling your computer. You can see that all four of the heatpipes that pass through the entire cooler are evenly spaced as they pass through the the large number of fins mounted on them, which will ensure uniform cooling all over the cooler. The base of the cooler is very interesting as the copper heatpipes are visible and have direct contact with the IHS of the processor, allowing for a better transfer from the processor to the heatpipes."

"Starting out with the basics, AMD's RV770 core uses the now-established 55 nanometre manufacturing process, packing in 956 million transistors to bring us this DirectX 10.1 and PCI Express 2.0 supporting part, and again featuring tessellation hardware which won't see support in an official API until the release of DirectX 11. RV770 certainly packs plenty into that transistor count, sporting a massive 800 Stream Processors to handle and process vertex, pixel and geometry shader data. These Stream Processors are arranged as arrays of sixteen units (or SIMD cores), of which there are ten. Each of these SIMD cores has a dedicated texturing unit (again making for ten in total), housing four texturing addressing processors, sixteen 32-bit floating point texture samplers and four 32-bit floating point texturing filtering units."

"The most dissapointing thing about the Ensemble is its failure to meet its quoted efficiency. Having said that, 80% is by no means poor and will in no way affect the performance of the Ensemble. The claimed maximum efficiency of 87% seems rather high to me and I suspect some exaggeration on behalf of Tuniq, which I feel we may see from other manufacturers. The minor hiccup on the high +5VSB noise should not cause too much concern, it's only 10mV and most performance motherboards are built to deal with some power supply noise as long as it's not excessive. There are few "perfect" power supplies out there and motherboard designers have to take this into account at the design stage. I would like to point out one major problem with the Ensemble. The 12V1 cable on this power supply consists of three 4-pin molex with an FDD connector to finish off. Most of you will be aware that this consists of only one conductor for the 12V rail, but pull the rated 20A on this rail and you will have problems."

"Looking for large portable storage that is also very fast? Michael checks out the HyperX DataTraveler 4GB USB drive to find out how fast it really is. Will the HyperX 4GB DataTraveler deliver your documents in lightspeed? Read our review to find out."

"Throughout my games I didn't notice any loss of quality, the bass and surround sound provided an excellent balance, not too much bass or treble. The sweet sound of lead piercing flesh and bone is music to my ears. As I played my RTS/FPS games, I could hear directional sound clearly so the surround sound actually does work."

"Shoppers today are faced with many options when choosing where to store their valuable data: from traditional optical media and hard drive based storage, to flash drives and even more exotic third party online storage - each with its own advantages and disadvantages. In this article Benchmark Reviews will look at one such option that's recently emerged in the storage market; the network-attached storage (NAS), in the form of the QNAP TS-209 Pro Gigabit SATA NAS. The NAS has lately gained popularity as more and more consumers realize the need for a reliable, cost effective, and easy to access centralized way to store their data. However, with so many competing products it's not always possible for buyers to easily compare what's on the market. Read on as Benchmark Reviews puts this "all-in-one" NAS through its paces."

"Hiper was kind enough to contact us to review the latest in their Type R series offering- The Mark 2 or MK 2. The metal connectors are a surprise omission, I loved them, but the mesh housing stays. New on the MK2 units is the increased efficiency rating and power support. The surprise addition is USB ports! Keep reading to find out what a power supply and USB have in common."

"The CLP-610ND does what few printers are capable of. It brings the features, performance and capabilities of a expensive commercial color laser printer, but is priced low enough that the average consumer can take advantage of its functionality."

"AXP is now offering the very popular external hard drive docking station for SATA drives. The unit can take a 2.5 or 3.5 inch drives and offers eSATA on top of the usual USB 2.0 connectivity."

"Back in March we had looked at the Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 mobile processor with its Penryn core and 6MB of shared L2 cache between its two cores clocked at 2.50GHz. We were very pleased with the performance of this mobile processor on Linux, which was found within a Lenovo ThinkPad T61 notebook, and today we are looking at the Penryn's desktop counterpart. Intel's Core 2 Duo "Wolfdale" E8000 series processors were released earlier this year with 6MB of L2 cache, 45nm manufacturing, a 1333MHz FSB, and support for SSE 4.1. The processor from the Wolfdale series we are looking at today under Linux is the Core 2 Duo E8400."

"AMD has launched three more Phenom processors that are sure to get people talking. The energy-efficient 65W Phenom processors are the ones to keep an eye on. They are priced under $200 and will be a nice upgrade path for those looking to drop in a processor and move on..."

"We mainly know Lenovo for their line of ThinkPad notebooks, but consumers really do not like those laptops because of their plain styling. Luckily for consumers Lenovo has released a new line of notebooks called their IdeaPad series. We first got a look at Lenovo's Ideapad series at CES earlier this year. Out of the 3 new notebooks we were most interested in the very tiny U110. This small laptop has a lot of very innovative features like a LED backlit screen and facial recognition. At only 2.92lbs it is a perfect notebook for traveling and mobile users. Will all these features make the U110 worth its price tag? Read on to find out."

"Cyber Snipa offers a variety of gaming peripherals, and we previous looked at their Sonar 5.1 USB Headset. They also sent us their Stinger mouse, which features a 3200 dpi laser engine, nine buttons, and internal memory. Will the mouse make a difference in gaming, or just be a flop?"
