OCZ Fatal1ty Series 700W Power Supply

OCZ Fatal1ty Series 700W Power Supply - January 5, 2008

Jonathan Wendell, better known by his gaming handle "Fatal1ty," came to fame in the gaming world after winning many well-known video game tournaments. With his success came sponsorships and eventually his own brand of computer parts and gaming supplies. OCZ produces Fatal1ty-brand RAM and has now produced a Fatal1ty-brand, non-modular, 700W power supply unit. ThinkComputers checks it out in this review.

Noctua NH-C12P Premium CPU Cooler

Noctua NH-C12P Premium CPU Cooler - January 3, 2008

Made in Austria is probably not something people are familiar with, but Noctua is trying to change this. Today we are looking at the Noctua NH-C12P Premium CPU Cooler which really is a premium cooler. It's not always easy saying quiet and optimal cooling in the same sentence when it comes to CPU coolers, but I think Noctua and the NH-C12P are starting to break this with a cool and quiet CPU cooler. While it certainly isn't the most inexpensive cooler on the market, it is probably a worthy investment because it currently supports all processors, yes even the i7, and it seems to me that Noctua will continue giving away free brackets for their CPU coolers in the future.

Icy Dock MB881US-1S-1 Hard Drive Dock

Icy Dock MB881US-1S-1 Hard Drive Dock - December 31, 2008

If there is one thing we have seen a lot of in the past few months it has been hard drive docks, external devices that allow you to plug in a SATA hard drive connect it to your computer via USB or eSATA. We have reviewed 3 of them already and they all are pretty much the same design. Today we will be looking at one from Icy Dock that is quite unique and is actually very portable as well. Let's see if the MB881US-1S-1 is the best hard drive dock out of the mix.

Boogie Bug Besace Wii Bag

Boogie Bug Besace Wii Bag - December 29, 2008

Tired of lugging around your Wii in a grocery bag, box or even your old backpack? Worried about every time you take your Wii out for a drive that there's quite the possibility of it breaking or scratching during transport? Then the Boogie Bug Besace Wii Bag is just right for you. With plenty of compartments, plenty of padding and velour inside brings out the main features of this high quality casual looking carrying case. Read on further to see what else it has to offer.

NZXT Whisper Classic Series Silent Tower

NZXT Whisper Classic Series Silent Tower - December 26, 2008

The NZXT Whisper Classic Series Full Steel Silent Tower is a very powerful case for a reasonable price. It offers a silent solution with support of up to nine hard drives and six 5.25" drives. An entire interior of sound dampening foam and silent fans are what gives this case its silent design. While NZXT designs mostly gaming cases I believe that they have knocked on the server chassis door with this case. With Extended ATX support this case could be a cost effective server chassis for a small business. Read on further to see what else this case has to offer.

2008 Year In Review

2008 Year In Review - December 25, 2008

Wow what a year it has been here at ThinkComputers, we published over 200 reviews and 27 articles. It has to have been one of the busiest years for us to date. I think that we really took things to the next level reviewing a lot more high-end products and keeping a constant stream of products coming in. I want to thank all of our sponsors and more importantly our readers for making this year such a good one. Each one of the staff members have compiled a year in review segment where they recap some of their favorite products and good times here at ThinkComputers over the course of 2008.

"Logitech has had a great deal of success with their diNovo-branded keyboards. The original, the diNovo Media Desktop, was released over five years ago and featured a keyboard, media pad and mouse. A few years later, the diNovo Edge was introduced and despite its high price tag, is still one of the most popular media keyboards among end users. Since then, we have seen the diNovo Edge Mini and even Mac versions come to fruition. Today we will be taking a look at the latest incarnation of the diNovo, the diNovo Keyboard for Notebooks.."

"Still hunting and pecking when it comes to typing and having trouble seeing at night? Well, today we might have the answer as we take a look at the Logisys Two-Color Illuminated keyboard offered by Xoxide.com, popular retailer of a variety of computer parts. Will this new keyboard bring stellar performance to both gaming and everyday applications? That is what we’re here to find out."

"Kingston's new 2 GHz memory kit joins the ranks offering stability and dependability as we've all grown to expect. Kingston is already in a very select group of vendors to offer professional and enthusiast memory. Despite their market position, the HyperX PC3-16000 2GB Kit weighs in at a staggeringly low $125 price tag. If that's not low enough to entice you to upgrade from your older P4 or lack luster DDR2 based Core 2 Duo board, then I don't know what will. It's stable, it's affordable, it's Kingston, and it's time you stepped up."

"The OCZ Technology SLI-Ready 2GB DDR3-2000 dual channel memory kit is almost ahead of its time. The eVGA 790i motherboard does support SLI-Ready memory up to 2000MHz, but it did have some trouble staying stable at that speed. Testing really didn't show much advantage over a ‘slower’ kit, and if you can run with tighter timings at lower speeds you may be better off."

"The 790GX brings a lot to the table in form of features and performance for the dollar. The main feature would definitely be the integrated Radeon HD 3300 graphic chipset. Sharing up to 512MB of memory any board possessing this integrated GPU will be a simple source for moderate gaming. And if gaming isn't your cup of tea but visual performance is, then how about support for multi-display setup without the use of an additional video card? Yes, the 790GX packs a lot and we will begin our coverage of the chipset with the Asrock AOD790GX/128M."

"In this review Frostytech is testing the just released Spire Thermax II heatsink, and if you can find it for an affordable price you should find it thermally satisfying. In any event, Spire's Thermax II heatsink stands 155mm tall, is 125mm wide and accommodates one 120mm fan that spins at 1000~2200 RPM. Weighing it at roughly 550grams, the Thermax II is compatible with both Intel socket 775 and 1366 processors."

"Finally, a chassis that is designed for the enthusiast that combines noise dampening features with expandability and storage. Introducing the Whisper silent full tower chassis from NZXT, improving upon the successful of the NZXT HU-001 chassis, the Whisper is another step up from the Hush. Featured in a large size E-ATX Full Tower, the Whisper can support up to NINE hard drives and a total of SIX 5.25"; bays with ample space for large expansion cards. 10mm dampening foams, rubber grommets, and padded PSU holder are some of the major features in silence. The NZXT Whisper is the complete solution for the enthusiast who is not willing to sacrifice silence for performance. Benchmark Reviews recently got a hold of one of these cases and I must say I'm intrigued so now let's just see if the Whisper lives up to it's name or not."

"The results for the In Win Commander 850W are a little dissapointing, especially the high ripple/noise level on the 12V rails. It comes with a good selection of modular cables and accessories and I have no doubt its military themed design will appeal to some people. Noise aside, the power supply does perform quite well, so I have no hesitation in recommending this power supply for use on any system running at stock frequencies for CPU and GPU. The high noise level will not prove to be a problem in this case. Overclocked systems require solid and stable rails, and for this reason I find it difficult to recommend the In Win Commander 850W for use by the overclocking enthuiast when better performing power supplies are currently available at a similar or better price."

"Today we’re looking at a HD 4870 X2 from Gainward which carries those two words we love to see; Golden and Sample. What has Gainward done to make the card so special? -We will find that out in just a minute. Gainward actually has two Golden Sample HD 4870 X2s currently available; the first is the one we have today which carries with it a slight overclock and the other is the GLH or "Goes Like Hell" Edition which carries an even higher overclock. Let’s firstly have a look at what exactly we have going on with the package of the Gainward HD 4870 X2 before moving on to a closer look at the card and how well it performs."

"We forget that not too long ago, it took several minutes to get a system up and running, and sometimes you even had to change out a floppy disk to continue! Man, times have changed! ASRock has decided to help us cope with those changes by introducing a technology called Instant Boot on their nForce 740i SLI motherboard based motherboard - N7AD-SLI. ASRock says that your system can be up and running in as little as four seconds. Though we did not experience that kind of speed, it was a nice feature to work with. We put together a short little video review to show you how it works..."

"A little while back, I reviewed Antec's Signature series 850W power supply. Toward the end of that review, I threw down a challenge: any company who thought they could do better than that unit should give it a shot and send me the resulting power supply. While I'm still waiting for responses from the likes of Zippy and PC Power and Cooling, Seasonic came through for me. I'm looking at the latest and greatest from them today in the M12D 850W unit. A beast of a power supply promising 70A of combined 12V capacity and bringing 80 Plus Silver certification with it. Let's see if it will do better than the Bronze certified Signature, shall we?"

"In Win were established back in 1986 and they never tried to diversify beyond designing and building computer cases. Merely a few months ago the company released a long line of high performance PSUs, the Commander series. Today we take a look at the high end 1200w model."

"Today I will be looking at MSI's version of the Radeon HD 4830, the R4830-T2D512 OC. The HD 4830 is ATI's last new product of 2008, and I suppose the last new card in the Radeon 4000 series. Read on to see what MSI has done with the HD 4830, with a factory overclock and heavy duty power supply with solid state chokes, this card is far from the reference version. I should mention that besides this being TC's first MSI sponsored review, this will also be my first MSI product. I really don't know why, MSI has been a consideration with every video card purchase I have made, for whatever reason I ended up with a different brand."

"With Intel’s new Core i7 processors’ need for a new socket and X58 chipset, ASUS is marketing its P6T Deluxe as a high-end, feature-rich board that should satisfy even the most discerning consumer. With the X58 motherboards inherently being enthusiast-class, there are slim pickings out there but the P6T Deluxe is probably one of the best all-around boards we’ve ever come across."

"And all you have to do to be a part of it all is to simply own one. But what about those people that want to take it a step further? There are bloggers all around the world wanting to get their word out, and what better way to do it than the net? And what better format than audio. You spurt your random nonsense into a microphone, send that crap to cyberspace, and every person on the planet with an internet connection has access. And the peeps over at X-OOM have the studio to help you make your dreams of being a world-wide-blabbermouth come true. Today I'm checking out X-OOM's Podcast Studio, and I'll check out the joys of podcasting for myself. But first, check out the info:"

"Benchmark Reviews is no stranger to the Radeon HD 4870 and today we add one more to the ranks: the ASUS EAH4870 Dark Knight Top. This 'DK TOP' model comes equipped with ASUS' famed Dark Knight cooler and claims of a 9% performance lead over stock 4870's thanks to an impressive factory overclock. In today's review, we'll put this claim to the test and find out what kind of performance the EAH4870 DK Top brings to the table."

"I really do love the launch of a new ATI based graphics card, because as soon as it’s released I’m on the back of Sapphire asking when an ATOMIC and TOXIC version of the card is coming. Attention to detail on this card is nothing short of fantastic and I have to honestly say that when the card was delivered I half expected it to be hand cuffed to the courier. With all that said and done, let’s begin and see exactly what we have going on here."

Via [TweakTown]

"This little card blew me completely away I went from 575MHz stock gpu clock all the way to 700MHz. A phenomenal 125MHz increase on a little card like this is very impressive. After overclocking the GPU I was able to get an additional 71MHz out of the memory taking it from an impressive 1004MHz already to an even more jaw dropping 1075Mhz. It was at this point I noticed the temps jumping up between 53 and 56 degrees still well within limits in my opinion. At this overclock I did not run into any issues with display problems and was able to successfully complete the benchmark suite."

"Today we will be taking a look at four popular netbooks from four different manufacturers: Lenovo, Acer, Smooth Creations and Asus. While all of the netbooks here today share similar hardware specs, each is vastly different and unique in its own right. Built quality, screen size, keyboard layout and touchpad implementation are only a few of the many aspects that will be covered in-depth."

"Today Ian takes a look at the Ineo external hard drive enclosure. From installation through testing and usefullness, Ian brings you the facts on this new product. Find out if the Ineo worthy of your cash?"

"You want to get away from air cooling and those oversized heatpipe setups are adding a lot of unwanted stress on the motherboard, but you don't want to endure the cost and hassle of converting your system to a water cooled unit. CoolIT Systems Inc may just have what you are looking for with their newest liquid cooling setup that goes by the name of Domino A.L.C. (Advanced Liquid Cooling)."

"Google, which has become a powerhouse in the search category, has developed a new cell phone operating system called Android, and T-Mobile's G1 cell phone is the first piece of hardware that uses this new operating system. With both touch screen and built-in keyboard, the G1 is set to take on the Blackberry as well as the iPhone. Geeks everywhere love the G1 because the Android operating system is based on open-source code rather than proprietary operating systems like Microsoft's Windows Mobile or Apple's iPhone. That means that anybody can make changes to the operating system without consulting or paying Google. Also, for the most part, anyone can write applications that run on the G-1. So we set out to find out if this is just a cell phone for techies to love, or if it a serious competitor in the smart phone segment of the market."

"Custom cases, there is always something about them that catches your eye. Many custom cases start from a very popular chassis and the M case is no different it is based off the Zalman Z-Machine GT1000. The Z-Machine GT1000 was released by Zalman a little while ago and is probably the best case that they have available. The Boogie Bug Dub Style team has taken the case and given it a total chrome finish and added a few other things to make it a quite an impressive case. Is this the perfect case for your new build? Read on to find out!"

"Right on the heels of our Sunbeamtech HDD Docking Station review comes another external drive storage product from Kingwin, the EZ-Dock. Although offering similar features to the Sunbeamtech and other units, the EZ-Dock isn't just another copy of the same design. It supports both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives and can be connected via the USB 2.0 or eSATA interface. It also offers a one-touch backup option that is not available on many of the other docking station brands."
