4GB Versions Of The AMD R9 390 Spotted

It looks like AMD is getting its add-in-board (AIB) graphics partners to launch cost-effective variants of its Radeon R9 290 graphics card with 4GB of memory instead of the 8GB that is standard. This could put pressure on NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 970 and the product stack below it.

With the drop down to 4GB of memory this actually makes the 390 a complete rebrand of the R9 290, except for the clock speeds. Custom-designed R9 390’s ship with the 10% boost in speed compared to the R9 290. Radeon R9 390’s with 4GB of memory have been spotted from Sapphire, XFX, and PowerColor.
