It seems when it comes to storage, especially solid state drive storage we are always looking at theoretical maximums. And while those are important, real-world performance is what the end-user is going to experience most of the time. That is what Samsung had in mind when they were designing their 990 solid state drive. The Samsung 990 is a PCI-Express 4.0 NVMe solid state drive with sequential read speeds up to 7,250 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,450 MB/s. On top of that you have a three‑year warranty and an 800TB TBW rating for the 2TB version. Samsung tells us that this drive is the perfect balance of speed, power efficiency, and value. Let’s take a look and see if that is the case!
Special thanks to Samsung for sending us over the 990 Gen4 Solid State Drive to review.

Packaging of the Samsung 990 Solid State Drive
The Samsung 990 comes in a pretty standard retail box. On the front we have a picture of the drive itself and the read speed is listed at 7,000 MB/s for the 1TB model. As a reminder this drive will only come in 1TB and 2TB versions. Flipping over to the back it is pretty standard with a link to get more information at Samsung’s website.

Opening the box up, inside you’ll find the drive itself and a installation guide / warranty statement booklet.
