Samsung 990 Solid State Drive Overview
Taking a first look at the drive, the Samsung 990 is your typical M.2 2280 (80mm drive). This means it will fit in motherboards, laptops, and even some mobile gaming devices no problem.
On the main side of the drive is going to be a sticker that let’s us know all of the information on the drive, including the capacity, which in our case is 1TB. There is no heatsink with this drive and it appears Samsung will not be offering a heatsink version at launch. The sticker does cover our components, which include Samsung’s own in-house controller as well as their own V-NAND. With Samsung producing both the controller and NAND they have much more control and can push firmware updates a lot faster.
Flipping the drive over there are no components on the back of the drive. Being single-sided means that this drive will fit in certain devices that only support single-sided drives.
