Samsung used Gamescom 2026 in Cologne to introduce four 2027 Odyssey gaming monitors spanning ultrawide OLED, high-refresh competitive play, cinematic curved displays, and flexible multi-mode gaming. The company also presented a broader ecosystem connecting monitors, TVs, Galaxy devices, SSDs, headsets, cloud gaming, and esports under its #PlaySamsung initiative.

Key takeaways

Samsung’s new displays target distinct gaming priorities, from image quality and immersion to extreme refresh rates.

  • The 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 combines Dual QHD resolution with 360Hz and a 720Hz mode.
  • The 32-inch OLED G8 offers three resolution and refresh-rate combinations, reaching 680Hz.
  • The 42-inch OLED G7 introduces a large 16:9 curved OLED format with 4K resolution.
  • The 27-inch Odyssey G6 reaches up to 1,100Hz in HD and 600Hz in QHD.
  • Samsung is expanding HDR10+ GAMING and Odyssey 3D support across more game titles.

Four monitors cover four gaming priorities

The flagship Odyssey OLED G9, model G95SJ, is a 49-inch DQHD monitor with a 5120×1440 resolution, 360Hz refresh rate, and 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time. Its fifth-generation QD-OLED panel uses Samsung’s Penta Tandem structure, while Dual Mode allows players to switch to 2560×720 at up to 720Hz for competitive titles.

The 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8, or G80SJ, focuses on flexibility. Its Triple Mode settings include UHD at 360Hz, QHD at 520Hz, and FHD at 680Hz. The display also includes a DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 connection, USB-C with 98W Power Delivery, KVM functionality, and Glare Free treatment. Samsung lists VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 600, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, and planned Nvidia G-SYNC Compatible support.

Bigger OLED and extreme refresh rates

Samsung describes the Odyssey OLED G7, model G75SJ, as the first 42-inch 16:9 curved OLED gaming monitor. Its 1000R curve, 4K resolution, 165Hz refresh rate, and 0.03ms response time are aimed at cinematic RPG and open-world gaming. The larger panel provides approximately 72% more screen area than Samsung’s earlier 32-inch model.

For esports and FPS players, the 27-inch Odyssey G6 uses a Fast IPS panel with a 1ms response time. Dual Mode supports QHD at up to 600Hz or HD at up to 1,100Hz. Samsung says the G6 is scheduled for global availability in the second half of 2026, while pricing and regional launch details for the lineup remain unannounced.

Samsung expands the gaming ecosystem

The monitors were only part of Samsung’s Gamescom presentation. Its 1,090-square-meter booth was divided into Odyssey, Galaxy, Gaming Hub, and T1 zones, with demonstrations spanning PC, console, and mobile gaming. Products included the glasses-free Odyssey 3D display, 9100 Pro SSD, JBL Quantum headsets, Galaxy smartphones, and OLED televisions supporting Samsung Gaming Hub cloud gaming.

Samsung also highlighted HDR10+ GAMING integration with Activision Blizzard for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and said the platform is expected to reach more than 20 AAA games by the first half of 2027. Odyssey 3D demonstrations featured Cyberpunk 2077 and Cronos: The New Dawn, while the company plans to expand compatible titles to more than 120 by the end of 2026.

A push to defend market leadership

The announcement reinforces Samsung’s attempt to differentiate through display modes, OLED engineering, software partnerships, and connected gaming hardware rather than refresh-rate specifications alone. Samsung says it has ranked as the global No. 1 gaming-monitor brand for seven consecutive years, based on IDC revenue data covering 2019 through 2025.

The company has not announced final prices or availability for most 2027 Odyssey models. More details are expected closer to each market’s launch window.
