ADATA XPG Mars 980 Blade Gen5 Solid State Drive
The XPG Mars 980 Blade is your standard M.2 2280 (80mm) drive. On the main side of the drive you’ll find four different chips. Again, these are not covered as you have the choice to use the included heatspreader or use the M.2 heatsink on your motherboard.
When it comes to the controller ADATA is making use of the Silicon Motion SM2508 PCI-Express 5.0 controller. This is a 6nm chip and actually Silicon Motion’s first PCI-Express 5.0 controller. It is an eight channel controller that support PCI-Express 5.0 x4.
The NAND chips on the drive say ADATA, but they are actually Micron 232-layer 3D TLC NAND. Each chip is going to be 512GB. There are two on the main side of the drive and two more on the back of the drive.
There are also two 1GB Samsung DRAM cache chips on the drive (one on each side).
On the back of the drive there is a large sticker the covers those two NAND chips and second DRAM cache chip.
