Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series: Zen 5 Arrives

Alongside the R9700, AMD is launching its Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series processors, codenamed “Shimada Peak.” These CPUs feature the latest Zen 5 cores, offering significant IPC improvements over their Zen 4 predecessors.

  • Key Features:
    • Architecture: Zen 5 cores for improved Instructions Per Cycle (IPC).
    • Core Count: Up to 96 cores / 192 threads in the flagship Threadripper PRO 9995WX.
    • Clock Speeds: Boost clocks up to 5.4 GHz.
    • Cache: Up to 384 MB L3 cache.
    • TDP: 350W across all models.

These processors will be available individually through AMD’s global partners and from OEMs including Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo, and Supermicro. The flagship Threadripper PRO 9995WX is priced at $11,699. AMD claims up to a 16% IPC increase and up to 25% gains in SPECworkstation 4.0 AI and ML benchmarks compared to the previous generation.

Availability Strategy

AMD’s launch strategy prioritizes original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for both the Radeon AI PRO R9700 and Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series. This means that for the initial launch on July 23rd, these cutting-edge components will primarily be found within complete workstation systems. DIY availability for the R9700 is slated for the coming weeks in Q3 2025, while Threadripper PRO 9000 WX-Series CPUs will be available for individual purchase from day one.
