If you have an AMD RX 460 you are in for some good news, author of overclocking.guide, der8auer, has managed to unlock the Radeon RX 460, providing a free performance upgrade to users! With a simple firmware update the card can be unlocked to gain more shaders. So in the case of the RX 460 the stream processors jump from 896 to 1024!
The AMD Radeon RX 460 graphics card is based off the Polaris 11 GPU. This GPU actually has 1024 stream processors arranged in 16 compute units, but the RX 460 only has 14 compute units enabled to allow for higher efficiency. When you unlock the card you get 2 more compute units which give you 128 more stream processors and 8 additional TMUs. So in total you have 1024 stream processors and 64 TMUs. Check out the performance results below, you can see up to a 12.5% increase in performance compared to the stock card.
It has been reported that two models, specifically the ASUS RX 460 STRIX OC and Sapphire RX 460 Nitro OC can be unlocked without any issues. Of course with any type of BIOS flashing on a graphics card there is risk involved. You can download the two unlocked BIOS’s below:
A free performance upgrade is a nice, although with any BIOS flashing proceed with caution!
