AMD Ryzen 5900HS And 5800HS Creator Editions With Higher Base Frequencies Will Power Upcoming Lenovo Ultra-Thin Laptops

AMD will release new variants of Cezanne APUs for laptops under its Ryzen 5000HS Creator Edition: The Ryzen 9 5900HS and Ryzen 7 5800HS Creator Editions. This means the HS-series will not remain exclusive to ASUS thin laptop designs.

Lenovo will utilize HS Creator Edition series APUs in their Yoga Slim 7 Pro and Yoga 14S. Although it hasn’t shared the complete details on new CPU variants, the news is that it will have higher clock speeds than its non-Creator variants.

As per the specifications listed by Lenovo, both processors will have a higher base clock speed in comparison to their original SKUs. We can expect a 300 MHz increase for Ryzen 9 5900HS Creator (3.3 GHz) and 400 MHz higher for Ryzen 7 5800HS Creator (3.2 GHz). Lenovo has not shared TDP values yet. However, the frequency of the Ryzen 7 5800HS is similar to that of Ryzen 7 5800H which requires 45W, whereas the HS variant has 35W by default. AMD never launched Ryzen 9 5900H non-S, though, so there is no point in comparison.

AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS Specs

Lenovo Yoga 14S 2021 will have a special 45W mode for Ryzen 7 5800HS. It is expected that the mode will offer up to 75% higher performance compared to similar ultra-thin laptops, which are usually locked to 15W CPU models.

As per AMD’s official specs, the original HS models are 300 to 400 MHz slower.

Both the laptops will have NVIDIA GeForce MX450 discrete GPU alongside 2.8K or 2.4K resolution on displays up to 14-inch. Such displays offer up to 400 nits of brightness and a refresh rate up to 90 Hz. The laptops can give a tough time to the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop (features 5000HS) if Lenovo doesn’t use a slow discrete GPU. However, ASUS’ product is for gamers, while Lenovo laptops with Creator Edition Ryzen CPUs suggest that they will target content creators.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS Specs

AMD Ryzen 5000 “Cezanne” series has up to 8 octa-core processors and two 6-six core variants. The lineup offers HS 35W models to 45W+ HX (unlocked) SKUs. The Creator Editions might be the last additions before AMD’s processors are based on the next-gen Rembrandt silicon-based models(rumored to feature refreshed Zen3 microarchitecture, but also updated RDNA2 integrated graphics).
