AMD Ryzen 9 3950X Revealed as World’s First 16-core Gaming Processor

Since Computex we’ve heard rumblings of a Ryzen 9 3950X in the works and it looks like it is actually a reality. This chip will essentially be the world’s first 16-core processor specifically made for gaming.

Ryzen 9 3950X Specifications

According to the leaked slide you see above the Ryzen 9 3950X will feature 16 cores, 32 threads, have a base clock of 3.5 GHz and boost all the way up to 4.7 GHz, 72 MB of total cache and a 105W TDP. The chip will use the same die as the Ryzen 9 3900X (12 core), but will utilize all available cores from both dies. VideoCardz has put together a list of AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 3000 series, which you can see below.

What Do We Think?

This chip makes the Ryzen 3000 series even more exciting! Could this be the chip that beats Intel’s Core i9-9900K? AMD has always been second when it came to gaming performance of their CPUs. The big questions are when will this chip be available and how much will it cost? The Ryzen 9 3900X (12 core) is set to be priced at $499, which is the same as the Intel Core i9-9900K. How much more of a premium would this chip cost?

I’m sure we will find out more details at AMD’s E3 2019 keynote later today at 6PM EST.
