The $299 option is guaranteed to overclock to 4.9 GHz on all 6 cores, and 5.0 GHz on up to 2 cores.
This obviously is a better deal because you don’t know how well a retail chip is going to overclock. The all-core overclock of 4.9 GHz will provide a nice performance boost over the stock base frequency of 4.1 GHz. Now if you are thinking about picking up one of these chips be sure you have adequate cooling.
