Elgato Key Light Air Review

Software

With the Key Light Air all put together and plugged in, it is time to install some software in order to control the light. Elgato offers support for multiple platforms, but we will be focused on the Elgato Control Center application for Windows. First though, we needed to install Control Center on our Android phone, as our PC does not have a wireless connection, and would not be able to add the lights to our network. A pretty standard pairing process is followed to get the lights onto your network, and if you have ever added a smart device or IoT object to your network, then you will be quite familiar with the process. Once added to your network, you can continue to use the mobile application to control the light, but since we will be pairing up the Key Light Air with a Stream Deck, we installed the Windows application to add that functionality to our PC.

Elgato Control Center is a pretty basic application, as it’s only real function is to allow you to power on the light and adjust color temperature and brightness. All of these functions are quite easy, and intuitively implemented: powering the light on and off is as easy as clicking the power button in the application, while two sliders are available for color temperature and brightness adjustments. You can also add additional Key Light Air and Key Lights to your setup via the “+” symbol if your PC is connected to the same wireless network.

There is also a settings portion to Control Center that allows you to rename your light panel for better organization, and an “Identify” button that will strobe the light panel for a few seconds to help you keep organized. You can also adjust the power on behavior to either match your last used settings, or set back to defaults.

A preferences menu also allows you to check for updates and sync multiple lights.

Adding the Key Light Air to our Stream Deck was a very simple task, as it simply consisted of finding the Control Center section and dragging in whichever control function we wanted. Since we won’t be adjusting our light brightness or color temperature during our streams, we chose to just add the “On/Off” function to our Stream Deck for easy access when setting up or ending our stream.
