Intel Teases the Core i9-9900KS, all-core boost to 5GHz

With AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series announcements Intel has announced a new special edition Core i9 processors, the Core i9-9900KS. This processor is virtually identical to the current 8-core, 16-thread Core i9-9900K except this new variant has an all-core boost up to 5 GHz. Intel has a little sneak preview of the chip, but we expect more details on this chip at their Computex 2019 keynote.

The base clock on the chip will be boosted up as well to 4.0 GHz (from 3.6 GHz). Not other real details on this chip have been mentioned, but we have to expect the TDP of this chip to be high, not to mention what type of cooler you’ll need for it. It is going to have the same soldered IHS as the i9-9900K, which when we pushed it to 5.1 GHz with an AiO the temps were extremely high.

Intel did not reveal pricing or availability. An all-core 5 GHz boost clock is impressive, but is that enough to compete with AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series?
