Kingston HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset Review

Usage & Final Thoughts
I have been using the Cloud Stinger for a couple of weeks now as my main headset. So this means I have been using with my main PC at home as well as with my laptop. I have been playing a lot of Star Wars Battlefront and DOOM with the headset. The sound coming out of the headset is really clear and precise. I am able to hear enemies coming, which helps me better prepare to get that headshot! Also listening to music the headset has really good sound, the bass is loud, but not overpowering like on other headsets. Another thing that I noticed about the headset is that it has some pretty good noise cancellation. While there is no active noise cancellation the way the earcups are designed they cancel out noise pretty well.

When it comes to comfort the Cloud Stinger is super comfortable on my head. The memory foam cushions sit around your ears and do not cause any strain after long gaming sessions. The lightweight design of the headset and the foam on the headband also help make this headset really comfortable. Since the headset has a lay-flat design you can easily rest the headset on your shoulders in between gaming sessions and the design makes the headset easy fit in your laptop bag or backpack.

The microphone works quite well and since it is adjustable you can move it right to where you want it. If you are not using the microphone you can just push it up and it will auto-mute. There is actually an audible click when the microphone is going in and out of the auto-mute setting. Using Skype as well as in-game voice communication I was told that everyone could hear me quite well.

While I really like this headset there are a few things I would have liked to have seen. Both the 3.5 mm cable and the microphone are not detachable from the headset. Having a detachable cable means that I can easily detach the cable from the headset and get up and walk around without any cable mess in between my gaming sessions. A detachable microphone is always great to see on a headset because you are not always going to be using the microphone, and sometimes it just looks weird, especially if you are using the headset with your mobile device. Finally being that this headset can be used for multiple devices it would have been nice to see some type of carrying bag.

At the end of the day I really like the HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset. It has great sound, is lightweight, ultra comfortable, and comes in at a price of only $49.99 at our favorite online retailer. The headset works on all platforms as well, which is a plus. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Kingston HyperX Cloud Stinger Gaming Headset a 9 out of 10 score.
