Lenovo Yoga 9i (2022 Model) 14-inch Laptop Review

Lenovo Yoga 9i Overview

Taking a first look at the Yoga 9i it really struck me at how sleek the design of the chassis really is. We have an all-metal chassis with very noticeable chrome accents on the side and rounded edges. Our unit has the “Storm Grey” color-scheme which as you can guess is a darker grey color. For those wondering the official dimensions of the laptop are 15.2mm x 318mm x 230mm / 0.6″ x 12.52″ x 9.06″ and it weighs in at just over 3lbs.

On top corner of the lid you’ll find a Yoga logo and on the opposite corner there is a Lenovo logo. We’ve seen this design language on many other Lenovo laptops and its just sleek and sophisticated.

Looking at the Yoga 9i from the side we can see those rounded edges and chrome accents. I really like this look and it just makes the laptop stand out better in my opinion. On the right side you’ll find a power button, a USB 3.2 gen 2 Type-C port, and a 3.5 mm combo audio port. The Type-C port supports Power Delivery 3.0, and DisplayPort-Alt mode 1.4. You will notice some cut-outs towards one end of the device, these are for the speakers, which we’ll get into in a bit.

Moving over to the left side we have a USB 3.2 gen 2 Type-A port and two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports which are capable of 40 Gbps, support Power Delivery 3.0, DisplayPort-Alt mode 1.4, and one of them is used for power. With the Type-A port you won’t really need an adapter for an older device, but like I always say it would have been nice to have a card reader!

Opening the laptop up we are greeted with our screen which is a 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS display. Lenovo also offers two other display options including a 2.8K (2880 x 1800) OLED and a 4K (3840 x 2400) OLED. All of these options are touchscreens with a glossy finish. At the top of the display there is a “notch” with a 1080p FHD IR Camera with a built-in privacy shutter.

The keyboard and palm rest area of the laptop is noticeably larger than other laptops. This has a lot to do with Lenovo going with a 16:10 screen. The keyboard is very much your typical Lenovo keyboard with chiclet-style keys. The function-row keys are smaller and there is an extra set of four keys of full-size keys the right side. These are what Lenovo calls “1-click functions” and include a power profile toggle, a toggle to blur the background on video calls, a audio profile toggle, and a toggle between Windows 11 light and dark modes. Disguised as 5th key on the right side is a fingerprint reader. The glass touchpad is also definitely larger that what I’ve seen in the past with a size of 3.15 x 5.41-inches.

When it comes to audio, built into the hinge is basically a soundbar with two front-facing tweeters and then you have 3W subs on each side of the laptop where we saw those cut-outs earlier. This speaker system was designed by Bowers & Wilkins and supports Dolby Atmos.
