Some of you might be surprised to know that crypto mining is one of the most popular tests for validating overclocking on graphics memory. TweakTown has carried out the memory overclocking test for two RTX 3090 Ti cards, including the ASUS ROG STRIX LC and the MSI SUPRIM X models. Both these models feature a memory of 21 Gbps out of the box. Let us keep in mind that this is out of the box and the memory can go much higher than this. The crypto mining test is being used to verify the potential performance gains from memory overclocking.
The memory limit for most cards is 1.5 GHz but it might be a possibility that somebody has already been able to cross this memory spec barrier. As far as the four custom models rounded by TechPowerUP go, none of them were able to go beyond this.
However, TweakTown has tested a sample which went above 1538 MHz meaning an effective memory speed of 24.6 Gbps with a total bandwidth of 1181 GB/s. this goes even beyond the upcoming RTX 4090 graphics card. What we can make out of this is that the card has the ability to be used at 24 Gbps OC for a long period of time during the crypto mining sessions
On the other hand, the MSI SUPRIM X card has a memory of 24 Gbps and it can achieve 130-132 MH/s in Ethereum mining. This is almost 25 percent higher than the stock RTX 3090 Ti however it shouldn’t be discarded that the RTX 3090 Ti has a lot of under-volting potential and crypto mining doesn’t necessarily require power limits to be set at the highest possible level.
