Final Thoughts on the Patriot MD330 Storage Hub
If you are anything like me you definitely miss all the ports we used to get on laptops. Now we are lucky if we even get an HDMI or USB-A port. That is why the Patriot MD330 Storage Hub is such a simple, yet useful device. If you need full-size HDMI and storage for your device this solves both of those problems, and most importantly without any complications. Testing this on both an iPhone and a Windows laptop I did not run into any issues.
You are able to output up to 4K 60FPS, which I feel will suffice for most people. There of course is also that extra Type-C input so you can still charge your device whether it is a phone or a laptop as you can push up to 100W through the MD330. And we can’t forget that you get that internal storage too.
Now that internal storage is not embedded so you are not going to get portable SSD speeds. Also it is worth mentioning that if you plan to use the MD330 on a laptop it is likely to block ports that are next to your Type-C connection, so something to definitely consider.
Right now you can pick up the MD330 Storage Hub at our favorite online retailer for $49.99. Now if you just need HDMI there are other options out there for cheaper, but add in the storage and compact size you aren’t going to find another device like this. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Patriot HD330 Storage Hub an 8 out of 10 score.
Pros:
– Small and compact
– No drivers or apps required to use it, just works
– Can push 100W through it to power your device
– 4K 60FPS output
– Built-in storage
Cons:
– If you just need HDMI there are cheaper options
– Built in storage is not the fastest
– Will likely block other ports on a laptop
