Patriot Viper VP4300 Lite Gen4 Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts

When I first heard of this drive and that Patriot was calling it “Lite” I was sort of was expecting a Gen4 drive that would give adequate performance, but not really impress me that much. Well luckily Patriot had other ideas with this drive and I have to say I am quite impressed with this drive.

With Patriot making use of the Maxio Tech MAP1602-C 4-channel controller and YMTC 232-Layer TLC NAND this drive in our testing saw sequential speeds of up to 7132.91 MB/s read and 6645.90 MB/s write in CrystalDiskMark. This is quite impressive for a DRAMless drive. With these type of speeds this drive is not only going to be great for PC use, but you can also use it with your PlayStation 5.

As you saw in our review this drive does not ship with a heatsink and Patriot is not offering a heatsink version either. While most motherboards these days will have M.2 heatsinks built in, when it comes to the PlayStation 5 you don’t have that luxury. No need to worry though as this drive did not get too hot or thermally throttle in our testing of it without a heatsink present.

Right now you can pick up the 2TB version of this drive at our favorite online retailer for $99, which is quite the price for a 2TB Gen4 NVMe solid state drive with this type of performance. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Patriot Viper VP4300 Lite Gen4 Solid State Drive a 10 out of 10 score and our Good Value Award!
