Steam has done the smart thing by allowing manufactures to create their own SteamOS powered hardware, much like what Google did with Android. This should prove to be a good strategy as we will see a wide variety of SteamOS powered devices. One such device that has been on our radar is the SteamBoy handheld gaming device. Up until now it was known as the SteamBoy, but the new name has been revealed as the Smach Zero Steam Machine.
The price for the device has also been revealed at $299 for pre-orders, that start November 10th. So what does $299 get you, well we do not have official specification, but we do know you get a 5-inch 720p resolution screen, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage space (with the ability to add more storage via SD cards), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G LTE, and HDMI output for gaming on a bigger screen. It is unknown what CPU/GPU SoC the device will use.
The company behind the device says the it is capable enough to deliver a great experience in popular games such as DOTA 2, Half-Life 2, and Civilization V.
