The predictions indicate that Sony’s PS5 sales might cross 200 to 300 million units in a period of 5 to 6 years. The sales might even reach 600 to 700 million units in the near future. This is what Norio Imanaka, Japanese analyst at Rakuten Securities Economic Research Institute said in a recent Japanese article. While in the last month, the predictions for sales made by Imanaka were roughly 200 million units.
As per the analyst, Sony’s PS5 might dominate the eSports industry if it acts as a replacement for PC, which will expand its user base over its lifetime. Imanaka states in the article that esports fans will love the PS5.
“Esports demands hardware that is fast and capable of advanced video processing, not only for professional gamers but also for amateur athletes and spectator fans. The high-spec, low-priced PS5 is for today’s games. There is a possibility that it can become an international standard machine for e-sports instead of a personal computer.”
Although achieving 200 to 300 million unit sales of PS5, will be a milestone for Sony but the Analyst suggests that the sales might be 4x or 5x of PS2 sales, i.e. 600-700 million units.
The article also mentions that Sony’s PS5 could become the terminator of the gaming industry, thus ending the current console war between Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
The translation from Bloomberg reporter Takashi Mochizuki states that.
” PS5 is headed to a totally different dimension; so different from Switch, Xbox, or even PS4, PS5 could be a terminator of the game industry, ending the long-running console war PS5 will be a whole new symbolic tower for Sony Group”.
The PS5 will launch on November 12 for the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. For other regions, it will be launched on November 19.
