Samsung Portable SSD T5 Review

Final Thoughts
When it comes to portable solid state drives there really is not much you can change, but I think that Samsung made the right changes to for the T5 to make it current and one of the fastest portable drives you can buy.

The biggest change is going from USB 3.1 Gen 1 to USB 3.1 Gen 2, that brings the transfer speed up from 450 MB/s to 540 MB/s. In our DiskBench test we transferred 2038 files which were a mix of RAW and JPG images totaling 22.2 GB in 41.70 seconds at a transfer rate of 546.98 MB/s. So this drive is definitely fast enough for things like editing 4K video and working on large photo files.

Also the casing of the drive is all metal now. Even though you don’t have to worry about this driving dropping since it is an SSD the entire metal casing just gives you piece of mind. On top of that the included software gives you AES 256-bit hardware encryption. Samsung also backs this drive with a 3-year warranty.

Samsung also includes both a Type-C to C cable and Type-C to A cable so you can use it with newer computers with the Type-C connector or older drives with a normal Type-A connector. The drive is also backwards compatible so you can use it on older systems as well.

Right now the 500 GB drive which we took a look at today is selling for $179.99 at my favorite online retailer. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Samsung Portable SSD T5 a 10 out of 10 score and our Recommended Award!
