SK Hynix’s First Consumer NVMe SSD’s Arrive at CES 2020

Being one of the few companies in the world actually creating memory chips, you would think that SK Hynix would have released consumer-focused NVMe drives, but that hasn’t been the case until now. For their first entry into offering products directly to consumers as opposed to via partner vendors, SK Hynix is presenting two product lines – the Gold P31 and the Platinum P31. Both drives feature 128-layer NAND for some crazy density options, and 3,500MB/s read and 3,000MB/s write speeds, with different endurance ratings and capacities.

Gold P31

Aimed at mainstream use, the Gold P31 will be available in both 500GB and 1TB capacities, with an endurance rating of 750 TBW over the life of the drive. This drive will be available in an M.2 2280 form factor and utilizes PCIe NVMe Gen 3 connectivity.

Platinum P31

Just like the Gold P31, the Platinum P31 will be available in an M.2 2280 form factor, but only in a 2TB capacity. The major improvement over the Gold P31 is the fact that the Platinum P31 has an endurance rating of 1,500 TBW, making this the high-end drive of the two.

Gold S31

In addition to the two NVMe drives, SK Hynix also announced a 2.5″ SATA SSD, the “SuperCore” Gold S31. While this drive won’t be breaking any speed records, the pricing is the real selling point. Available in 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB capacities, the Gold S31 is currently selling on Amazon for $49.99, $59.99, and $105.99, respectively.
