Synology RT2600ac Router Review

Synology RT2600ac Router Overview
Taking a first look at the Synology RT2600ac it has a footprint that is a bit larger than the RT2600ac, but around the same size as many other high-end routers we’ve seen. The official dimensions are 77 mm x 280 mm x 169 mm (without antenna). Under the hood you have a Qualcomm-based design as opposed to the Broadcom-based design we saw on the RT1900ac. The RT2600ac is powered by the Qualcomm IPQ8065 quad-core processor and 512 MB of DDR3 RAM. This of course gives the router 4×4 MU-MIMO support.

On the top of the router you are going to find plenty of ventilation holes, keeping the unit nice and cool. Moving down the top you’ll find a large Synology logo as well as your indication LEDs for power, 2.4GHz, 5GHz, WAN ports, and LAN ports.

The router has molded plastic feet that are part of the chassis. This lets the router sit at an angle that you see below. While I like this, there is no way to remove the feet if you wanted to have the router sitting flat or wanted mount it flush on a wall. On the left side of the router you’ll find a USB 3.0 port and a eject button for the SD card slot which is located on the front of the unit.

On the opposite side you have a WPS button as well as WiFi on/off button. Having these buttons on the side is great. Typically they are on the rear of most routers, making them harder to reach.

On the back of the unit you’ll find a power button, power connection, USB port, WAN port, and four Ethernet ports. The WAN port is color-coded in blue so you know where to plug your WAN connection in. Having two USB ports is pretty awesome too, you could use one for a storage device and the other for a USB printer or even 3G/4G dongle.

Finally flipping over to the bottom of the unit we again have plenty of ventilation holes and a larger sticker that has all of the default router settings on it. You can also see mounting points where you could mount the router to your wall, but of course the rear feet make that not possible.
