Setup & Software
Getting the My Book Duo setup is very easy. Just plug in the power adapter and plug it into your PC or Mac using one of the supplied USB cable. There is no dedicated power button, if its connected to power it will be on. When the drive is being accessed you’ll noticed a small horizontal light bar that goes across the middle of the drive.
The drive is already formatted and ready to go if you are going to be using it on Windows. On the drive you will find the WD Discovery software. After it is installed it will appear in the Windows 10 task bar. When you open it up it will show your connected WD Devices as well as a list of Apps that can run on the drive. You have things like PLEX, Acronis True Image, and ElephantDrive.
As far as WD Apps that are available you have WD Drive Utilities, WD Security, and WD Backup. Opening up the Drive Utilities you can see the WD drives you have connected and you have the ability to run a drive status check, as well as scan tests.
Moving over to RAID management you can see your RAID status and obviously change that configuration. For the My Book Duo you have the ability to set the drives in RAID 0, RAID 1, and JBOD.
Under settings you can set a sleep timer to when the drive will go to sleep when its not active. You can also turn the from LED on the drive on and off. Drive erase is what you expect it to be, you can fully erase and format the drive in NTFS or exFAT.
