Well this is an interesting story and just shows how bad the GPU market is right now! Apparently last week a large number of MSI GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards were stolen from MSI’s factory in mainland China. This information has come to light by an official MSI internal document about the theft which you can see below…
While the document does not mention how many cards were stolen or the value a Chinese news app claims that it was 40 containers with an estimated value of 2.2 Million Yuan, which is roughly $336,500 in US dollars. Based on the MSRP of the cards this would amount to around 224 RTX 3090 graphics cards.
Of course we know these cards are worth considerably more on the black market, since there is a massive shortage of cards right now. An RTX 3090 typically goes for around $2,600 on eBay.
MSI has offered 100 thousand Yuan for any information that leads to the recovery of the graphics cards.
