Is the ADATA SC735 External SSD Worth Picking Up?

The ADATA SC735 is a portable SSD that puts convenience ahead of unnecessary extras. Its built-in retractable USB Type-C connector eliminates the need to carry a separate cable, while its compact dimensions and 13.6-gram weight make it one of those drives you can easily keep in a pocket or laptop bag. With capacities of 1TB and 2TB, it also provides plenty of space for large media libraries, games, project files, and backups without taking up much room.

Performance is right where we would expect it to be for a USB 3.2 Gen 2 external SSD, making the SC735 fast enough for large file transfers, direct access to stored content, and recording Apple ProRes video on supported iPhones. Its wide operating-system compatibility since it is formatted as exFAT by default, also allows it to move easily between computers, mobile devices, and game consoles, although maximum performance requires a compatible 10Gbps USB port.

The biggest compromise is the plastic enclosure. While this construction helps keep the drive exceptionally light, it does not feel as premium or provide the same heat-dissipation benefits as an aluminum body. The SC735 carries a MIL-STD-810G 516.6 impact-resistance rating and is designed to withstand drops of up to 1.22 meters, but it lacks the water and dust protection offered by more rugged external SSDs.

Overall, the ADATA SC735 is a solid option for anyone who values portability and does not want to deal with an extra cable. It delivers strong 10Gbps performance, useful capacities, broad compatibility, and a five-year warranty in a design barely larger than a USB flash drive. If convenience and low weight are your priorities, the SC735 is easy to recommend; however, users who need a more premium enclosure or protection against harsh environments may want to consider a more rugged alternative.

As always storage prices are not the best right now, which we can’t hold against ADATA. Currently the 2TB version of the drive that we reviewed today is selling at our favorite online retailer for $296.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the ADATA SC735 External SSD a 9 out of 10 score.
