ADATA XPG SX950 240GB Solid State Drive Review

ADATA XPG SX950 Solid State Drive Overview
The ADATA XPG SX950 is of course a 2.5-inch solid state drive. It has an all black chassis with a large sticker on the front with the XPG logo and capacity. Not bad, but since ADATA is marketing this drive as a gaming drive it would have been nice to be a little more stylish.

Flipping over to the back we have another sticker with your model number, warranty codes, and much more. You can also see four small mounting holes. For those wondering this solid state drive uses a tool-less chassis design, but be warned if you open the drive you will void your warranty.

At the end of your drive you have the typical SATA data and power connections.

Finally on each side you have two more mounting holes. This is a 7mm drive, but it does come with the adapter for 9.5mm if you happen to be installing in an older laptop.

If you were to open the drive on the inside you would find a PCB with the Silicon Motion SM2258 controller and four 3D MLC NAND chips which are marked as ADATA, but produced by Micron. There is also a 128 MB Nanya DDR3L cache chip. The Silicon Motion SM2258 controller is the same one we found on the HP S700 Pro drive, it is a 4-channel controller and supports 3D MLC/TLC NAND.
