AMD Officially Announces Ryzen 7 8700F And Ryzen 5 8400F CPUs

AMD has updated its website coinciding with the release of the latest desktop CPUs. The Ryzen 8000F series was officially introduced on April 1st, however, AMD provided limited information about this release. The new SKUs were briefly discussed during a special event in China, with no details shared regarding specs, pricing, or availability at the time.

It is now confirmed that the new SKUs utilize Phoenix/Hawk Point silicon and essentially mirror the G-variants but without integrated graphics. This means they miss out on one of the key features of this silicon: the efficient RDNA3 integrated graphics. However, in exchange, users get a lower price point and access to the latest Zen4 architecture.

As per AMD, the Ryzen 7 8700F and Ryzen 5 8400F will have global availability, dispelling earlier rumors suggesting they would be exclusive to China. However, reports indicate that these SKUs will initially only be accessible to OEM partners and likely system integrators. While this doesn’t rule out their eventual release in the retail market, it does mean they lack an official MSRP, and their availability hinges on how soon these companies begin offering them to retailers, which is highly likely to occur.

AMD RYZEN 8700F 8400F SPECS

In terms of specifications, the Ryzen 7 8700F features 8 cores and 16 threads, boasting a base clock of 4.1 GHz and a boost clock of 5.1 GHz. It shares the same L2 and L3 cache as the Ryzen 7 8700G, which is 8MB and 16MB, respectively. This SKU necessitates discrete graphics for operation, and there’s no Ryzen AI (XDNA) processor enabled either.

The Ryzen 5 8400F is a 6-core processor featuring a base clock of 4.2 GHz and a boost clock of 4.7 GHz. Like the Ryzen 5 8500G, it comes with 6MB of L2 cache and 16MB of L3 cache. This SKU lacks support for Ryzen AI acceleration, indicating it’s likely based on the smaller Hawk Point silicon, which lacks the physical XDNA processor.
