AMD’s Mantle Headed to CryTek’s CryEngine

At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco AMD and CryTek announced their new partnership to bring AMD’s low-level Mantle API to CryTek’s fourth generation CryEngine.

“AMD is delighted to bring Mantle support to the enormous audience of gamers and game developers reached by Crytek’s CRYENGINE,” Ritche Corpus, AMD’s ISV Gaming and Alliances boss said in a statement. “Together, AMD and Crytek are forging a path for the graphics industry that better utilizes gamers’ advanced AMD GPUs through ‘closer-to-the-metal’ API design.”

“By integrating AMD’s new Mantle API, CRYENGINE will gain a dimension of ‘lower level’ hardware access that enables extraordinary efficiency, performance and hardware control,” added Cevat Yerli, Founder, CEO and President of Crytek, in the same statement.

This partnership means that developers will have access to the Mantle API from within a game engine, rather than adding the API in afterwards.

CryTek did not announce any titles that will be powered by the new fourth generation CryEngine. They do have a title that already supports Mantle, Star Citizen, which is based off CryEngine 3.
