Skeleton Overview
I’m really not even sure how to describe the Skeleton in words, it is unlike any other case that I’ve seen. This is what Antec says about the case, “The Antec Skeleton is a truly revolutionary enclosure. With a unique design that allows for unprecedented airflow, a front 92mm fan, and a top three speed 250mm fan with multicolor LED customization, the Skeleton goes utterly unmatched in stylish cooling. Factor in the layered component trays for top-notch convenience, as well as the rack mount quality side rails, and you have a case truly without equal.” On the front of the case you have a large power button, audio connections, eSATA port, 2 USB ports, and a firewire port.
At the top of the case you will find a huge 250mm multicolor LED fan. This provides most of the cooling for the case and really is the centerpiece of the case itself. Since the fan is the centerpiece of the case Antec made sure their logo was front and center on it.
So looking at the front of the case on the left there is room for 2 5.25-inch drives and on the right there is room for 2 2.5-inch devices. Moving the Skeleton to the side the bottom part of the case is protected with a honeycomb cover that can be removed to make it easier for you to route cables.
Moving along to the back we can get a better look at the motherboard tray. Above the motherboard tray there is a clear piece of plastic that will enable you to lock in your PCI cards. On the bottom half you have the power supply placement which is also removable.
Finally as we flip the case over we can see the 4 small rubber feet that will keep the case in place on your desk and keep it from scratching it up. When you have the case flipped over you can really see the quality of the case too. The main internal part of the case is made of 0.8mm cold rolled steel and the outer part of the case is made of ABS plastic. When you lift the case up it feel very sturdy and together. Also on the top of the case by the fan is a simple fan controller and button that will change the color of the LED’s on the fan.
That case looks sweet, but isn't it sort of scary having no walls around valuable parts? What if you splash something… 😐
Indeed. Dust and such could be a problem. If there was a model with grating or maybe even transparent something covering those holes, it would be much better able to accomplish its goal of protecting in insides.
Antec offers a full mesh kit for this case on their website: http://www.antec.com/Detail.bok?no=654
Ah I didn't know they offered that, very cool!
Antec outdid themselves with the Skeleton. I own one that I have assembled as a workstation.
A pair of Quadro 4500's with an I,7 Intel Proc, OEM cooler on a P6T Deluxe board and 12 ghz of DDR3. I do Parametric Modeling and this configuration is a monster. It stays cool (by I7 standards) and is simple a immeadiate to add a HDD since all is in the open. I have had no problems with dust or any other foreign matter jamming up the works. Have formatted this machine twice and it is a kick in the pants to work on.
I plan on purchasing the mini version and putting together an I5 board to use for presentations and entertainment.
